Perhaps what we need is the ritual and anonomous Ass-Whooping of any one or two of the Asshats that screwed someone one of our brothers over.

Spreading THAT word will make them think twice about sleazing around here. I mean, Seriously, you would not pull that crap on a Hell's Angel, now would ya?

I nominate any/all of the 5 listed under the Bad Sellers/Buyers post!

I would also be willing to lead the posse.

I've been meaning to join, and this locked me in. Go ahead with it Ryan, sounds like a good plan to me. Now I gotta get in touch with those other vendors...

I'm not sure what that means. I could be wrong but I think I've sold 2 things on the HAMB both for what I paid for them. EDIT I just looked at my post history and it seems as though I do have a lot of posts in the classifieds. Why do I have so much junk in my garage still? LOL

That's exactly why I sent in my $50. I use the classifieds all the time as well. For those who don't like the idea remember that fifty clams breaks down to less than $0.14 per day!!! AND your helping out a board which you obviously enjoy. I think everyone who uses this site should send something Ryans way for all the effort he provides. Just my .14 cents for the day:)

  6. I am for shutting down the classifieds altogether they havent worked for a long time first it was Marcus, then moderators ,then rules, then 2 sections with no comments, then comments alowed with rules as to comments, now you gotta buy $50 worth of stuff you may not want!! The classified have been infected for along time and a $50 alliance fee is not gonna cure the bugs. I am probably considered one of the dead beats and am proud to be one for alot of reasons. I am not an alliance member I dont see paying $50 if it were $10 with no goodies I would be one.. I feel this classified thing is extortion plain and simple ..

I was watching to see how long it took someone to think this was a scam to force people to become Alliance members.

This is just a message board not a lifestyle or justification for people's existence. I say change it to make it easiest on the moderators and move on. If people don't like it they can leave. I'd rather have fewer, better quality people. I get WAY more than my money's worth being a member, and I don't use the discount benefits at all.

The classifieds will get smaller, but I don't see that as a bad thing. I know my stuff gets pushed to the bottom quickly sometimes to make room for parts that are barely relevant and/or way over priced. I put shit on here knowing full-well that I could make more on ebay, but I don't care. I feel like what goes around comes around, and good deals beget good deals.

ll agree that I've done enough dealing on the classified section that I should cough up but I really see the classified section as the perk I'd want. I haven't bought anything from the Alliance Vendors. I get all my junk from the guys who have the crap in their garages! My 13 YO son and I are building a 54 Chevy truck that is so far all from the HAMB. EVERY piece.
I guess I just answered the question I had for myself, which car to put the tag on...

I'm off to sign up! Gotta give back to what got me this far.

What about like Craigslist.org where the classifieds drop off after 45 days?

$.14 per day? Wow, I was going to rescue a kid from Cambodia that Meathead's wife was showing me a picture of but this is WAY cheaper...

Wow. Damn you Ryan for wanting this FREE sight to run smoother for everyone.
Even if I wasn't an Alliance Member, I'd still be able to check the classifieds and purchase stuff....this is just a way to eliminate some of the BS that goes on.

I think it's only fair to own up to this because I'm sure there are alot of people who are thinking this is Ryan's plan to push Alliance Memberships.

Here is the exact Message that got all this rolling...

So it was me, it was my idea. I make ZERO dollars here whether you are an Alliance Member or not.

Sometimes I wish everyone knew just how much Ryan ISN'T about the money.

    Another thing...

No one said an Alliance Member can't post an ad for a non-member.

You one of the guys who simply can't spare the money? No sweat!

Find a buddy who's a member and have them post it for ya. Just make sure you and they know they are vouching for ya.

Can't find someone who will vouch for you? Can't help you there.

I don't have a dog in this fight, as I'm already an alliance member and would still be able to use the classifieds either way. I agree that the purpose of the alliance membership is to support the board that we all know and love. It does not make me any better or worse than someone else. Why not make the classifieds free for alliance members and charge a seller's fee for non members. You could charge say, $10.00 bucks and the seller would have to provide verifiable contact information before the ad goes up. This way our HAMB brothers who can't afford an alliance membership could still participate. I have been duped out of some stuff by a Hamber before and it sucks. I am also all for some sort of "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" list so that we can keep tract of these miscretants.

but only if you are an alliance member. I have dealt with several HAMB members on parts trhu Southern Rods and have tried to give them good deals, but I or Southern Rods doesn't belong to the Alliance(nor have we been approached to do so). I hook the guys up because they are fellow rodders and, I thought belonged to a group where membership wasn't requirred. Now I know the site cost money and I do not have a problem with trying to fund it somehow, but does this mean I should no longer offer fellow HAMB'ers deals because I or they or both aren't in the Alliance? I don't think so. Now I have only posted on the classifieds once or twice that I can remember so making it exclusive as far as posting is not a problem, but when I have a deal for something I will not be able to pass it on to a HAMB'er due to my lack of title(ALLIANCE vendor or member). Why not do it like other websites and have member only sections for paying CLUB members, and a general section sans classifieds and ALLIANCE deals for average smoes like me. Just thoughts . Ilove this place and realise that it is always easier to criticise than to actualy do something, but seeing as how I am not in a position to do something other than talk. Again not dogging anybody just thinking out loud.

What keeps that from happening now?

We're trying to weed out the lazy ones. As said, the only way to clean it up completely is to shut it down, completely.

Worthy opinion... But I completely disagree...

I have to say that Being an overseas member (non alliance member)being an alliance member really would'nt have done me any good at all. Also the fact that when the changes happened to the new board i found any ad's that were put up had very little if any replies.I have to say that the HAMB has done me well over the last couple of years that i won't argue and when i do have a spare $50(which i aint at the moment)i will certainly put it up for alliance.I do still however think that to preclude people with a very large amount of posts from the Ads is crazy just because they don't belong to the club just my 2d's worth but there ya go .I'm sure my opinion won't be listened to or worth much as so many others have a different view but i thought i had to say it.................Marq

For example in a past life I collected hotwheels heavily, and they had two diffiren sections of there website. One was for non paying members who liked to look and chat , but rarely spent or made any dough. The other (The redline club) was for the " hardcore" collector who wanted more than idle chat or easy reading. Why not do the same here. Restrict access to some areas for non-alliance members, give perks, other than classifieds , for Alliance members. I do not have a problem paying to get the benefits of The HAMB, but I really do not reap anything from the Alliance vendor list because the company I work for is a WD with alot of them already. I vote for a membership fee across the board. Give a tshirt and a plaque with each one. Maybe a one off diecast or painting here and there. Again just ideas.

  24. I dont feel entitled to anything but my feelings and I am true to them. You are entiled to disagree. And I will bet in a yrs time what ever you do besides close the classifieds there will be another post in this fashion as they seem to pop up every 9 months or so because there is no solution to scammers its the same on every forum that offers goods for sale

    Okay, Gotcha.

The thing is. Ryan specifically did not want any part of the HAMB to be kept from the average Joe just because he chose not to become an Alliance Member. We are trying very hard to keep that from happening and the ONLY reason we are using the Alliance Membership is because the machinery for this is already in place.

Seperating out by post count, how long you've been here or any other criteria would involve introducing yet another "hack" to an already heavily modified message board.

the advantage to having open classifieds is a variety of things to buy. if you charge to post than all that will be selling on the classifieds are people doing it to make money. some people just want to sell the part instead of it laying around rusting away. the problem seems to be you feel responsible for the deals being done and you shouldn't.

Absolutely no one up to this point has joined the Alliance so they can use the classifieds. If that is the only reason you use this forum then you should pay just as you would anywhere else.
Myself I joined the Alliance to support one arss kicking group of people that as a whole you cant find anywhere else. Just the educational value of the post and tech sections has saved my $50 many times over. Not to mention the nifty HAMB shield that some day I will turn into a buttock branding iron for the Lady's.

We stopped holding ourselves responsible for bad deals a long time ago. That said, I feel very responsible for the health of this place and am willing to do anything to make sure that health stays where it is...

I've talked to a ton of folks today and have gotten some great feedback. I think most folks are willing to spend the $50 as kind of an insurance which is an interesting development as I didn't think of it that way.

At this point, I would say that we are heavily leaning towards at least trying this out for a bit. I think it just might work...

Like I said I'll be glad to pony up some bucks to help "The cause", but what to about the classifieds is a tough row to hoe. Whatever happens I will continue to post and to read and to try and help out any way possible. Also about the HAMB alliance vendors someone send me a PM and see if I can do something official(after talking to the owners of course). Like someone said in the end it's RYAN's call and we'll all follow , I think, no matter the outcome. The classifieds are just a bonus for me. Peace
