I am trying to narrow down the type of suspension to use on the rear of my 48 dodge truck/ woodie project. I was thinking of using a 2 bar truck trailing arm set up but there is a factory crossmember ( about 20" in front of the axle) that would have to be removed (or seriously notched) and something else fabbed in its way.

Because of the crossmember issue, I am thinking of going with a 4 bar, preferable with a triangulated set up.. but I want to run airbags in the rear and I am not sure of the suspension travel limitations with a triangulated 4 bar. How much susp travel can you get from this type of set up. (can you get 6 to 8 inch of movement without any binding or other issues.

I have a standard 4 bar in my sedan and I know I can get 6" of travel with no problem but then I have to run a pan hard bar..

any other type of rear suspensions out there that I am not thinking about.. (leafs are not an option.. dont want to run them with bags)

I would think it depends on your attachment points but I see no reason why you wouldn't get 6"-8" of movement with a triangulated four bar. I was messing around with the rear suspension on my sedan while the frame was still on the fixture, I was amazed how far that diff could move and still maintain a decent pinion angle without binding. I guessed right I suppose.

watts(sp) linkage would stop side to side movement with long travel in a four link arrangement

My triangulated 4bar will go through an arc of at least 24" without binding on my airbagged daily driver. Shocks limit this of course.

Have a 4 bar/shock waves/panard bar in mine-works great for travel except locator bar is a little short due to narrow frame and causes a little side to side movement, but travels no problem8"
