Here's a new one for you guys, well maybe not everybody but for me at least... So I'm moving my triple gauge panel. Instead I'm going to run 2 two gauge panels. I'm gonna run my driver side mechanical temp gauge and the tach on the left side of the steering column and a p***enger side mechanical temp gauge and the voltmeter on the right of the column. I want to put the vent control cables where the gauges currently are, centered under the radio. I'm using the Summit heater control (which is going to be a modified factory chrome knob so it looks right) in the center location with the vent control cables on either side of it. The problem I'm running into is the length of the vent control cables. The driver side is way too short and the p***enger side is way too long. I figured I could just swap them side to side but the short cable is still too short and the long cable isn't quite long enough. Alright finally onto the question... does anybody know where I can get some of these made up with the metal sleeves and same ends, so when you look under the hood it doesn't look weird and out of place?
Trying to buy these cables in correct lengths is difficult at the best. I learned years back to make my own starting with new cables that are to long and shorten them to fit. I did a how to here a long time ago with a homemade tool. I think if you go to my bio and find old post it still comes up. Let me know how that works.
I'm thinking of using a couple of those universal doorman choke cables and shorten them to fit since they're 6 ft long. I'm just not sure if the knobs they come with unscrew or how they're attached
Being your starting with the new stuff just crush the molded-on knob and thread the end of the cable 10/32 then make a bushing if needed for the knob you want to run.
Here's the heater cable 'how to' thread by @Pist-n-Broke : https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/tech-week-control-cable-repair.1229979/
Turns out Shoebox Central has a choke cable that's 37" long with a thread on end and it looks like it fits inside the dash bezel perfectly. The wire end I'll still need to coil so I'll be using your method
