Rockets didn’t fit correctly on the hood. Got a plan on how to refasten rocket to lower half shell since these had been blown apart at some time in its life. Ace run in the morning for couple of tiny machine screws and nut’s and a little pot metal luck. IMG_3730.jpeg

I say build one. Pick the cab of your choice and fit it on a 2006 and up F350 crew cab dually long bed frame and build it how you want. A ramp truck is more vintage, but a true roll back is way more versatile.

Got the chassis started with the usual goodies Sbc, 700r blazer rear etc. Not exactly traditional I know, but I have been down the beam axle road and that’s not for me anymore. Looking for some comfort for what will be a daily driver. As usual ,I got ahead of myself and did the seat already... it’s a long winter out here on the bald ass prairies....

Arrived late this evening. Working on what I’m going to say about this in the morning. Not happy about cheap Home Depot type screws. Should be like the one I’m holding onto. IMG_3733.jpeg

I have been working on repositioning the oil filter on the 215 Buick to clear the frame rail in the Ruby. I started with a universal re-locate kit, but the adaptor was still to large. So I carved some foam, glued the pieces together and coated with a thin layer drywall mud and poured.
This is the conflict I was up against, and my solution. I tried going vertical but had interference with the tie rod. So, the most open area available was parallel with the pan in a horizontal orientation. In the process I am also going change the thread of the nipple to match the smaller late model 5.7 filter. It may have a tendency to unscrew in from the pump so I will add some sort of retainer.

More to deal with. Upper clips not formed correctly. Look at clip face to witness mark of the tie bar on the fender. IMG_3738.jpeg

Oldsmobile specific engine run stand nearing completion.
current version is for '63-'64 engines,
it will get an alternate front support for '49-'62 engines

Forgot to show the process on how I mechanically get these two parts back together again since the friction head of the rivet had been grind off prior to me owning it. So “a picture is worth 1000 words” will have to do.

I was originally going to cement a piece of 1/4” key stock in the channel of the rocket point (right arrow) then drill and tap it 8-32. But I settled for the easier route instead. IMG_3745.jpeg IMG_3746.jpeg

I remember the rockets on my 57 took a bit of fiddling to make em look half decent...

Started cleaning up, measuring and inspecting the flathead I drug home last week. A complete teardown is in progress. Story is, it was stored for decades after being refreshed and replaced with a hemi in the seller's friends '30 A coupe. Supposedly only 3000 miles on the rebuild. It is standard bore, 4" stroke crank with no ring ridge and the hone hatch still showing. It is within out of round spec and doesn't appear to need a trip to the machine shop. (I have another in the shop now). Found a few minor things that need to be tended to but overall it's looking good. It was painted black years ago but removed easily with a wire brush. Came with everything needed to build a reasonably priced runner. including a nice set of unknown tube headers, early Fenton dual deuce with 94s, bell housing adapter, new fuel pump and a barrel of other parts. Plans are to adapt the early intake with a PCV system and use what I have on hand to build a custom combination fuel pump stand/vented filter/ oil fill cap. This one will go in the coupe and the other will be a mancave coffee table until needed. DSC08113.JPG DSC08077.JPG

more on the engine stand and "will it run" engine.
waiting on a few more bits to finish the stand but it's together enough to run the "will it run" 394 Olds.
good news; decent oil pressure, no over heating, no leaks, no water in oil or horrible noises.
bad news; sounds like one cylinder may not be doing what it's supposed to..
    time for compression test.
yup, number 3 cylinder is dead..
pulled the valve cover and rockers are behaving.
my guess is that sitting outside with only a tarp over it let at least damp air if not water in causing issues..
best case; just a hone and re-ring, worst case; serious pitting trashing the block.

no biggy, this was just a fun exercise and an excuse to build a run stand.

@A 2 B your coupe looks like it had a vintage Hotrod past...was it an old Hotrod from the 50s/60s and your reviving it or is it just your own vision and more recent as in post Hamb recent...If it is an old Hotrod do you have any pics you would care to share?

Stogy, thanks for the interest. I have glanced over the history in bits and bites over the years since I have owned it. I bought it in 2015. It was in long term storage for 53 years at that time, because of engine issues. It had a 8BA flathead with bad cylinder damage caused by a piston pin retainer coming loose. That engine needed a sleeve and not much else but the previous owner never got around to it. I bought the car after he past. The 8BA was installed in 1961. It had split bones, EA cam, Johnson adjustable lifters, Edelbrock dual deuce 94s, top loader transmission, stock rear axle, mechanical brakes and original wheels. It had homemade headers (very restricted to clear the stock steering). It had homemade dumps made from oil canister housings. When I got into it, I found it needed almost every lower panel replaced. Basically a crude home built hotrod that needed everything.
After talking it over with a few of my hotrodder friends, the consensus was it needed everything and the history was not anything that anyone thought needed to be restored or recreated.
I agreed and made it into my vision, which strayed out of the HAMB perimeters, thus not featured here as a build. Lots of overlap and unique fabrication details but not everything is kosher for these pages.
I did find an old photo tucked into the front seat upholstery that I previously posted. It looks like it could have been the album cover for the band pictured, whoever they were. I was never able to identify them but they strangely look like familiar faces from the past. I have that photo and several from the previous owner and when I bought it.

Thanks A 2 B...Either we had a conversation about this some time ago or I saw that Band image elsewhere as I recall seeing it. It looks like you've up sized the rubber. I like where your going with it...the V8 will get you up to speed with most of the masses. Well I see it had one already...even hopped up a little...Keep us posted...did you start a Thread?

This is a better photo of the band from an earlier thread. When I bought the car it still had remnants of the lettering on the passenger door. I could do a Thread in the "Off Topic" section but it would be really time consuming. Maybe next time I'm recuperating from another operation or something. I can call it re-coupe-erating.
