Who got in for Sick Week? The registration land rush was Saturday morning. Sold out in about 3 minutes from what I hear. I'm in for the Hot Rod class. There is also a Gasser class.

Racing 5 days at a Drag Week style event in Florida in late January has a lot of appeal for so many reasons!

    Schedule
Monday, January 27 - Tech & Testing, South Georgia Motorsports Park

Tuesday, January 28 - Day One, South Georgia Motorsports Park

Wednesday, January 29 - Day Two, Bradenton Motorsports Park

Thursday, January 30 - Day Three, Orlando Speedworld

Friday, January 31 - Day Four, Gainesville Raceway

Saturday, February 1 - Day Five South Georgia Motorsports Park

I need to redeem myself from my day 4 DNF at Sick Week 2024. I wear the shame like a millstone around my neck, and there is only one way to free myself of this burden. That process would be:

    Enter the event (done)
    re-assemble engine
    re-assemble car
    fix everything on the list
    dyno test
track test to dial in the suspension, tires and clutch
make it to the event on time
    finish the event

So I'm off to a good start, first item accomplished. With that out of the way, the rest should be a piece of cake! The event isn't until late January, so I have plenty of time to goof off and relax before I get started on the hot rod. side launch small.jpg

Thanks for all the positive reinforcement! It'll be a week or 2 before I have an opportunity to start working on the Coupe. I picked up a 33 Auburn V12 Speedster a few weeks ago that has not run or drove for about 20 years, and I am trying to get it running in time to have a little fun with it before winter. Then, when that gets tucked away, I'll go full steam ahead on the coupe. As for now, I'm figuring out what parts I need. The rod bearings and cam bearings showed up today. I already have the rings and the block is honed.

Squirrel, Yup Sick Week in Florida January-February 2025. It is an amazing experience for an ice bound northerner to race all week in Florida in the winter!
I was registered for Sick 66 this month but had to withdraw due to a medical issue. I was really looking forward to the Sick 66, as some of us were going to start in Chicago and run Route 66 all the way to Santa Monica. So it' a big disappointment, but Sick Week will make up for it.

I'm in the thrash to get the Hemi back together. I had a setback in that I dug my spare set of roller lifters out of storage on sunday that I was going to use to replace the damaged ones and found that they were wrong. So I ordered another set monday, paid for overnight shipping, they showed up late today (wednesday), and they are .001" over spec on the diameter. So tomorrow morning I'll be on the phone trying to find a proper set. Worst case I suppose I'll have to hone the lifter bores. But the block is already clean and crank is in, so that would be back-tracking.
41GMC, I don't suppose I should derail this thread with off topic Auburn stuff, but here is a sneak peek. After Sick Week I can post more in "The Antiquated" section I suppose.

Shame about the lifters mate. Thoughts are with you as you as you bolt it together.

I finally finished getting the Hemi put together tonight. Cam's been coming over and helping with the project some. Hopefully tomorrow will have it in the car and test fire it. If nothing goes wrong we should be ready in time for sick week!
Since I had problems last year caused by the screws that hold the cam retainer plate to the front of the block rattling out, besides loctiting them I switched to ARP hex bolts instead of the Allen headed cap screws, and made a sheet metal retainer with tabs bent against flat spots that I ground into the flanges of the bolts. I'll be really, really surprised if they rattle loose.

More progress today. The engine's in the transmission's in. Should be up and running tomorrow, barring the unforeseen. Thanks for the well wishes! My shop looks like a tornado went through.

    41 GMC, that's Flipper!

Well, it's 20° below zero outside, but the Hemi coupe is ready to load into the trailer! Yesterday and I thought it was ready to start, but I noticed 2 of the carbs were leaking internally. I tried a bunch of fixes, but they still leaked. I took another stab at it today and got the leaks stopped, then I finally attempted to start it this morning, but it wasn't running too good. That was pretty discouraging considering I don't have any time to fix anything before sick week. But I got over it, then spent the day fixing and tuning and now It runs like a million bucks!
