A few months ago I ran across a FB Marketplace ad for an old hot rod ‘36 5 window. The ad had been up for a couple days, but surprisingly I was able to secure a time to come look at it. So I left at 4AM, making an 11 hour, 600 mile journey from New Hampshire to Long Island NY.

Here’s the photos from the ad…. It looked good enough and the price was right!

What I found was a 70’s street machine, frozen in time from when it was parked in ‘75. Fortunately I was able to buy it from the man who remodeled it. He bought it in ‘69 or ‘70, as a former drag racer minus motor and trans. He built up a stout 283 with a Vette dual quad, 3/4 cam and a Muncie 4 speed.

Even after making the trek down and back, I had to get to work cleaning the old girl up. Stopped by our shop and hit it inside and out you the pressure washer, to help take off a few decades of dust, dirt, and grime.

That was a good deal, he only posted 3 pictures originally and I when I asked for more he added them. If I had the room I would have made the trek from jersey to grab it! Good luck with her!!!

Despite being parked since ‘75, it didn’t take much to breathe life back into the 283. With a temp gas tank, new points, and some makeshift wiring she came to life, and I was able to drive it out of the shop a week after I got it. Some local hot rodders happened to stop by and got to witness the action, and look it over out in the light!

  20. Now that you have washed it and got it running, just drive it. It looks like it doesn't need much to enjoy it.

Very cool. The sawdust or whatever was on it looked like heavy corrosion in the first pictures, appears to be much nicer than it looked at first glance.

Great find, I'd put running boards back on it, change the taillights and wheels and make it drivable!

I’m always curious as to why someone would all of a sudden lose enough interest to park and ignore the car they have so much time, energy and money invested in and just let it go for the next almost 50 years.:(

Got a buddy that has a very nice Olds custom here in town just sitting in the garage for the last 5 years with a dead fuel pump.

Nice find! I can understand the former owner parking it, no need to know his reasons. Have fun with it. Bob
