So soon I'm planning on buying carpet for the 53. I know some companies drag when it comes to shipping while others have negligible quality like the Newark headliner I bought. What's some good companies for both turnaround and decent quality (it'll never be a show car) for carpet? Was looking at one from OC carpet
American Upholstery in Tulsa. Rushin Upholstery in Little Rock. Both sell decent to very high quality carpet.
Honestly didn't know anyone in Arkansas made auto carpet. That's an hour from where this car came from lol
I used the ACC carpet in my 53. Very pleased with the fit and quality. Get a sample of the color first.
I've never used these guys but I did contact them for info. The owner, Jim, called me several times and sent me several samples of both headliners and carpets even though I told him I was months away from being ready to buy. He seemed to understand Ranch wagon issues verses a regular car. Might be worth a contact, but again I've never actually used their product or know anyone who has. I remembered Stanlow99 said that 85% of the carpet sets being offered by vendors are ACC so I just bought from a Canadian distributor if ACC.
I liked the fit and finish of ACC, but the color has faded significantly in the 2 1/2 years since it was installed. Probably my own fault for not parking in total darkness, plus it's maroon. Probably the fastest fading color of all
They used great quality materials. And had decent turnaround time. But that's really where my praise for them ends. Seams look like they had some guy with Parkinson's stitch it up after doing some drugs. At least on spot I found they completely missed stitching for an inch or two. Had to do a LOT of trimming at the the sides. And had to cut a couple inches off each end of each of the bow loops. Installed it looks good if you don't look too close. Basically it's give a buddy with a sewing machine and a lil experience two cases of beer to do it in his garage quality. Definitely not what I expected from an over 100 year old upholstery shop.
Here's an example of the squiggly seams I was talking about. If you notice it squiggles multiple directions
