Very cool rod! I would like to find one of these to build. I always thought it would be cool to have a Durant hot rod with a Buick nailhead as a nod to Durant's provenance.
When it’s done…. It will still be called a Ford. Years ago when I was inspecting a roadster at Bonneville I heard a guy behind me saying to another spectator how the rear of the roadster had to be stock and this one was illegal. I held the competitors entry on my clip board and knew the car well and just need to make sure all the safety rules aware met and send him on his way and move on to the next car. After I was done I asked the guy watching me why he thought the car was illegal and went on about the area behind the deck lid and the wheel well area. So I asked him what he thought body was and the year… He said a 33-34 Ford…I looked at him and his interested friend and said “it’s a 34 Dodge”. I thought the interested guy was going bust his gut laughing. The guy doing the talking turned red as a beet! I said “they are not all Fords no matter what you think “ and moved on to the next competitor.
Was that car from down near windsor? I think I bought the fenders off of it many years ago if it was. lol
Yes it was in Amherstburg this time around. It started in Windsor and moved to a few different owners, everyone just stripped parts off and sold it.
Detergent oil might have helped a bit, haha. Reminds me of all the flathead V-8s my buddy and I took apart in the early 70's looking for good blocks. I had black hands all summer.
I really like your work ! Just 'cut to suit...beat to fit'...You got skillz brother ! Hit do look like a long one though. (NOT locker room talk !) Like ya said...later on you may shorten the front a dab. Is it going to have a suicide front end? Will the front section of the body be dropped down enough to cover the exposed front part of the frame ? Take plenty of pictures !!!! 6sally6
These things were extremely high on the frame. The way it is now is with a 4” channel. I can’t go lower comfortably as the po did a 6” chop on it.
I got lucky and had a decent day outside. Spent the morning scraping and degreasing then got outside with the power washer before fogging oil everything inside.
Finally something hamb worthy and local. Give me a shout if you need a hand or something I have “ in inventory “. Keep up the good work.
I am still around, messed up my shoulder so process has been slower than I wanted. The cold doesn’t help either. But I got the passenger side frame reinforcement plate welded in tonight, just a piece of 3/16 on top and around the motor mount.
Got more done today and started fitting the firewall. I tacked the stock piece on 1/4” steel rods so I could build without the motor in the way. I managed to get the top and sides put in and just have to figure out the English wheel to make the corner pieces.
Going to be the only Durant at the local cruise-in. Guaranteed to take the "Best Durant" trophy every time. Excellent workmanship, looking good. I like it.
Finished up the top half of the firewall today, went back and changed the drivers side to a round top instead of square corner.
Finally had time to get back to the car, had to lay flooring through 3 rooms on top of working overtime at work. Used the old cam for a spreader bar and made up one headlight mount so far. Also have new pedals to build with during my 2 weeks of afternoons.
Had a few ideas of what I wanted to see, so I worked afternoons, bed at 2:30, and up working at 8 am.
