    This was Hamber @OLLIN's Hotrod but its a 28/9 where the other is 30/31...I can't recall the one in the auction that was a late Hamber's collection aided by another Hamber but when I find it I will share it...it was done more often than we'd imagine as I've seen quite a few...and yes just part of the Culture of Hotrod really...

    Again, I'll bet it was inspired by an old pic of a Hotrod the builder saw...it has a highly traditional presence right down to the tires...I've shared 36 fords with 32 shells so I'd like to know the story...

    :rolleyes:...This Hotrod like mine spent time both in the US where it was built and Canada. Where it differs from mine is it went back south again in what is really quite the story well worth reading...in the end it was reunited with a man that as a young'un just developed a love for it but it was his Uncles and many moons ago he sent it Northward instead of keeping it in the family...but again it ended up where it should have and the now grown up Cousin I believe he would be is enjoying the revived Hotrod to the fullest. What is very fortunately coincidental is the man who bought it from his uncle basically revived the vintage Hotrod as it was back in the day as true to its original configuration as he could which was what his Uncle was always asked to do but never got around to it...

    ...a great little story...the only downside is the Uncle has never seen the restored Hotrod since its departure many moons ago...Family can sometimes be like that...maybe it'll all smooth out just like the body free of so many original seams and gaps from it's past visit with Leadsville...

    Never got into the cabinet knob grill thing. These may be the after market cabinet knobs you could get at the speed shop instead of the hardware department at Montgomery Wards.

    That Coupe has went through a LOT of Facelifts...I'm okay with the wild nose...It goes with the back which is complimentary a sprinkle of the Jetsons...Cosmic Man

    Your welcome Ron...yes that was quite the story...every ride you have in that Hotrod will take you back to another time in such a changed world...I really enjoy that with mine being I was too young to experience 1963 in a Hotrod...

    Agree with Dubonet ^^^. What with headers? A guess: zoom in looks like valve cover reads “Cadillac”; center single exhaust port splits into two; then with fabricated intake put another exhaust pipe from exhaust crossover normally used to heat intake; normal pipe from end of head 2 exhaust - result in five pipes each side. Strange. Also confused by long thing under valve cover - holds spark plug wires?

    The wires are above that flange coming in from the ends of the head. The extra pipe is as you describe a crossover thats vented into the exhaust exits to perhaps be carried away with those gases...

    Hello,

    Back in 1958, going to the drags through the front gate was awesome. For years, my friends had been walking across the farmer’s fields from our junior high school baseball field. Sitting on the railroad tracks coming from the harbors to the west was our perch to view the sounds we heard while playing football or baseball on the fields just adjacent to the elevated railroad tracks. But, making the trek across the dirt fields was, well dirty. We had to walk like a ballerina and not kick up a lot of dust. That alerted the security force at the dragstrip.

    Our goal was to stand on the farmer’s field and almost able to touch the return road racers, on their way to pick up the timing slips. As long as we stood on the dirt field, no one could touch us or make us go away. Sometimes the security cars would drive by and tell us to go away. Other times, they just gave us mean looks and parked right in front of us to block our view. Then, when we moved a few steps left or right, they moved on down the road to the tower.


    The first time we actually drove into the front entrance, I was taking a film of the 58 Impala, while my brother was paying for our entrance.

    When we drove into the pit area, we found a nice spot to set up and get ready. As we took our stuff out of the trunk and back seat, I had time to wander around and take some films. The first car I saw was not a competitor. It still had the full custom hubcaps and looked like the owner just got out and walked away or to the competition car sitting a few steps away in the vast pit area.

    We already knew our friend had his 34 Ford 5 window coupe at the drags, racing in the A/Gas class. But, this 34 coupe had modified fenders and full hubcaps. That would have made him not in a Gas Coupe/Sedan Class. The modified fenders would have put him in an Altered Class. So, the light blue coupe was probably a friend or part of the pit crew.

    Something to note was that the modified fender style was rare in our So Cal area. Coupes and sedans, yes they were there on the streets. But a coupe/sedan without full fenders was a rare one and perhaps from another area of So Cal tagging along with the pit crew for the drags. YRMV

    Hi Fellas, thanks for the kind words. I have always felt Koolkat's motivations for this Thread were well founded at the time he posted it. In that time and I will say while I have contributed a fair share of content I'm not alone in that. Others have got the original message and continue to find content worthy of being shared here and do.

    I will say that while there continues to be some opposition to what the original message was I believe there is more tolerance and acceptance for the diversity that was the Hotrod evolution during the many years and periods to 1965. I believe this Thread has and continues to influence that.

    There have been a number of Threads started over the years that have tried to wrestle away what this Thread represents but they don't rival this sizable evolving representation and are really just examples of the same message put forth with a different name. I will continue to contribute things that I feel fit and one of the great things is there are many here among us that still fabricate unique examples of Hotrod that would fit right into any number of the many periods prior to 1965.

    @jnaki, thanks for sharing this. It's interesting that you having been around this great period in Hotrod noticed this Hotrod that was without question a mover and shaker like so many but it was a little different. Do you remember if it had a 32 Shell/grill up front...that's another thing that has caused a lot of negative vibes over the years. Gladly many just did as they pleased and personally it's never stopped me from appreciating it when I see it.

    Again you highlight another classic reason things weren't ALL the same...regional differences. It's been mentioned many times here and truly is part of the big picture that keeps on giving as time evolves and estates are opened to be absorbed by new owners as we age out of our time on terra firma. I certainly understand the reluctance to give up these relics that become a part of our hearts but life never rests until it stops giving. If one is fortunate they can keep the dust off till the very end and I appreciate that as well...

    :rolleyes:...Hamber @Mikel50's I believe...man this thing really came out nice...

    It had been rodded right up into the 70s I believe so Mike had chose to bring it back...I notice the trailer fender on it in the garage shot that was available in the late 40s...they were pretty ugly but yeah, not the first time they saw duty on the go fast crowd...I have a style of trailer fender on my coupe that also made its way into go fast and actually didn't look bad at all even though in my case it is an inspired reality...

    :rolleyes:...this is another Hotrod @Mikel50 has worked on...it has seen many faces over the years and again highlights the diversity of the looks they took on through the eyes and hands of those that had the passion...apparently the off with the top happened in 1978...he has decided to take this what seems to have been a pile of parts back to another period in quite a dramatic way but he likes many facets of the big picture and I certainly have seen these at the Strip in the 50's right up into the early 60s...and I know it will be him that steps back in time to feel the energy that must have filled ones soul with power and speed right till the finish line...
