Auction listing said there’s a three speed in the car, but I believe there is actually an in/out box and that’s the actuating lever.

The hand brake sits to the left of the driver.

Love the well executed simplicity of it.
How could you not have a ton of fun ripping that down the quarter mile?!
I'm guessing it's damn reliable enough to make run after run after run...

Have Moon Gauges always said ‘Made in the Good ol USA’?

To my knowledge, Moon has never made gauges. They rebrand em… I’m not sure who made the early steel case gauges, but I’d guess SW. They are pretty damn good.

Then, Moon went with Chinese made gauges for a number of years and it wasn’t until they started outsourcing to both Autometer (I think?) and Classic Instruments (I’m pretty sure?) that they started using the “made in the good ol USA” script. Regardless they are modern plastic case gauges. Autometer makes the best contemporary gauge in my opinion.

I’m a firm believer that the best made gauges are from the 1940’s and early 1950’s when steel was used for the cases and the mechanics were more solid.

Looks like it is painted Serra Gold, the perfect 50's color too.

Is the fuel log homemade or could you buy them back then?

The original Mooneyes were made by U.S.Gauge. I think now they're made by Classic Inst.

It would be a blast to strap on a helmet, start it, listen to the music, smell the spirit and make one pass down a vintage strip...something that would remain with you till the end...Hotrods have a way of doing that...

Tom must have been a focused racer and understood what mattered in a racecar...and yeah, they were way ahead of themselves with that rear/mid engine stuff...leading eventually to the modern reality of the rails...

This is a beautiful car. That said, the ultimate of this genre, in my opinion, is the "Lil Billy" dragster that we have seen so often on these pages. I think it is even more iconic than the "Speed Sport" roadster. Thanks for sharing

did A/Modified Roadster have to use a real roadster body?

I know nothing about the racing classes in the good old days, I just know what looks cool.

That’s a bold statement… I respect it… But the Speed Sport Roadster is my favorite drag car ever - no matter the period or class.
