Admire your body work, looks great & doors fit again. Hope not a big channel, like the old hi boy drag coupes.

Good stuff! I was hoping it would stay heavy channeled...

But since it's not, the real question is, are you gonna chop it?

The rear panel looks decent in the pics, but like the rest of the car, it was bondo and booger welds.

    red341-19-25-2.jpg

This is the inside panel. I fixed it, but didn't take any pictures, you are gonna have to just trust me.

    red341-19-25-3.jpg

Once all the crap was off it wasn't too terrible.

    red341-19-25-4.jpg

    Holy shit, it fits.

    red341-19-25-5.jpg

    1/4 ends are boogered.

    red341-19-25-6.jpg

    All better.

    red341-19-25-7.jpg

Drivers side definitely has been the easy side of the car.

    red341-19-25-8.jpg

And, there you go. Both quarter tails ready for final metal work.

    See ya, -Abone.

If you don't mind me asking where are you getting your patch panels and what did you think of them for quality? Great work.

I used to get my panels from Howell in Texas, but I am not sure they are even in business anymore. On the last few cars, I have used Steve's Auto Restoration or CW Moss. I have noticed that no matter who I get the panels from, they all have exactly the same writing on them. Not sure what that means....

Thank all you guys for the kind words.

The parts probably come from Tom Bay. This is a long outdated catalog, call him.

  18. Love watching your progress. Some talk of an L.S.? My son loves his LS's Runs a 427 LS in his 49 Ford coupe [twin turbos] with a 6 speed. Not done yet. He built another one for his ZO6 and said I could have the original motor if I ever went over to the "dark side". Tempting

LS will never happen, that was just a buddy of mine pulling my chain. As for what is going under the hood of this one, I can only say it won't be all that unusual....

For a 90 year old car it looks fairly solid once you repair past sin's,love to see the rest of the body once the paint is removed hopefully that was the worst of your troubles.

Still in metalwork mode. Here is this weeks exciting episode.

    Rotten lower cowl.

    red342-1-25-1.jpg

All back together including the subrail.

    red342-1-25-2.jpg

The drivers side was multi-layered rusty crap.

    red342-1-25-3.jpg

So, we talked earlier about where panels come form. Here are three different lower cowl panels from three different vendors. Can't swear they all come out of the same press, but it sure looks like the same dude writes on them.

    red342-1-25-4.jpg

Drivers is pretty much the same as the passengers, plus another pic of the world famous FlamedAbone U-Weld It Subrail Kit (tm).

    red342-1-25-5.jpg

Somewhere along the line, somebody decided to street rod the hell out of the poor unsuspecting cowl vent.

    red342-1-25-9.jpg

But wait...all might not be lost. Looks like the OG lid might be buried under there somewhere.

    red342-1-25-10.jpg

Like all the other work on this poor little car, if you dig under the Bondo, you find very few welds.

    red342-1-25-6.jpg

Holy shit, this part is pretty good.

    red342-1-25-7.jpg

And the lid is OK too. Yea!!

    red342-1-25-8.jpg

Next is the door bottoms and that will just about wrap up the structural body work.

    See ya next time.

That cowl vent lid and opening was a great result, I guess you've got to win one occasionally.
Patiently waiting for the next episode and a big thanks for posting your build.
