What a crazy part of the state to have a custom car! I always camp nearby there in Black Canyon and Grand Mesa. I read that he was a tech at the nearby Ford dealer in Montrose, and that he built a '51 Chevy mild custom with a small block Ford. I'll dig through my collection when I'm home, but I saw this '53 was in the Aug 1985 Street Rodder mag.
here is a picture of Walt's chevy that I took at the KKOA leadsled show in Des Moines in 1984. Walt is a great guy. He has a lot of stories about hanging around in Roths shop in Maywood Ca back in the 60's. He currently has a bitchin Chevy fleetline with .... wait for it.... SBF power
CCC had a good article on it too. https://www.customcarchronicle.com/icons-of-the-80s/walter-leeman-53-chevy/
I'm pretty sure that's my pal Richard Glymp's killer 54 chevy setting next to the Leemand ride. I last heard it was in Europe somewhere ??
@Joe Blow, thanks for posting that article! I love how in this shot the car's lines and colors mimic the landscape.
No mention of the color in the article... at least from my quick skim of it. Any idea what it is? It's awesome.
Great photo… Illustrates the chop perfectly. Also, fuck watermarks unless placed by the photographer.
I was thinking this was the same car. I saw it at the Spectacular in 24’. The front end treatment and frenched antenna looked similar.
They were actually almost clones of one another... I like the Flamed upgrade it had which was I suspect still under the Leeman watch or is that the aftermath you spoke of?...Verified, Yes Leeman did this upgrade... Quoted... "After Walter sold the car the Chevy has been repainted at least once. The last time we saw it it was painted two tone mauve with scallops covering the front of the car."

I'd say @Sum54ford is correct...Pretty major Tailight mods but I think the ride still rocks...If your gonna change it up complimentary is the best medicine... So Sum are those pics up your way? If they are that Custom has Travelled...a lot.

I would have to agree, although the car is still very cool the original version had a very spot on early 50s traditional custom look.
Would look bad ass on your A Brent.....the Hyder and McCloud 34 fuel coupe had a shade pretty close to this.
