Hello, I need some help. What must I do to install a Chevy S10 Tremec T5 transmission on a Ford V 8 Flathead? Is that possible with the different shafts and splints?
Been selling the conversion kit for 30+ years. See our ad in the HAMB For Sale Section. Gary at Cornhusker Rod And Custom
You haven't told us the car and frame this is all going into? You cannot put this combination in early V8 chassis unless you're willing to make some pretty extensive frame modifications. Same goes for if you're wanting to run an original torque-tube banjo rear - another whole set of fabrication issues. You have to talk about the complete package in order for us to give you more information on the specifics to think about, the level of work involved, etc..
Pete: Interesting that the S10 T5 trans is a piece of shit in your eyes. I've been selling a T5 kit since the early 90's and have probably sold more than anyone else. I think it would be safe to say that the majority of my customers have used the 85-92 S10 T5 out of a 2 wheel drive pickup. Minimal problems if the trans is in good shape and most never any complaints about the ratios. We are also selling kit to fit the 93 up T5 with the Ford front pattern. Between what I've sold plus my competition I'd say the S10 T5 trans was a dam successful transmission.
WHOA! I said the ratios in the S10 box are atrocious, NOT the transmission. I have installed several T5's in various hot rods, BUT, I use the 202 gear set for obvious reasons. The T5 is basically, an excellent street rod transmission especially with a few easily done mods for longevity. A short throw shifter makes it a dream to shift too. Also, I have always been a fan of your conversion stuff and sent a lot of people your way.
Haha, nice save? I’ve done a few T5 conversions , really makes it more driveable for highway travel . S10 trans gear ratios are great when running 7:50 or 7:00 x 16 on those flathead powered hotrods
Hello, I'm trying to reach Gary at Cornhusker Rod And Custom, but he isn't responding to emails. Does anyone knows, he still has his business?
I put a T5 in my 32 a few years ago and love it. I can cruise down the highway at 60 without the engine screaming at high rpm's compared to the old 3 speed top loader. It may not be traditional underneath but looks traditional on top. I fab'd a vintage looking shifter and a new trans cover. Most people can't tell its a T10 from the top
