Have a customer with a '49 Cadillac Fleetwood, He can't seem to find a set of reman. brake shoes. Everyone wants to sell us the material and we would have to get it mounted on the old steel backings. This is something I have no experience with. Didn't they stop doing this type of service back in the 60's? We have tried most of the mainstream dealers like NAPA and Kanter. Thanks, JT P.S. Will post a thread in the want adds as well.
Your local truck & heavy equipment garage should be able to point you in the right direction for someone to re-line the old shoes
My local auto parts jobber sent my 41 Lincoln shoes out to be relined. (somewhere in Tenn. I think) They bonded new lining to my shoes and returned them. It took about two weeks.
Any big city should have a brake and clutch rebuilder. I've relined hundreds of shoes. But after the move I no longer have the tools. Metal Friction in Seattle does a great job. American Industrial in Denver is good. Never been to Florida. Check the yellow pages.
Rochester Clutch and Brake, here in Rochester, NY is a major rebuilder of brake shoes. In fact, they do a bunch of work for Kantor and ship on a nearly daily basis to them in New Jersey. Let me know if I can supply any info on this business.
I relined the shoes on my '47 Ford with the linings and rivits provided in the kit from Sac. Vintage Ford. ($50.) I'm not sure where or if a kit for a Caddy is available. I didn't have an arbor press so I used a drill press to secure the rivits. ...........Bob
