Hot Rods powder coated wheels??

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by seadog, Jan 24, 2025.

  1. 'Picked up some wheels the other day that are powder coated black. I'd like to change the color to silver. Will the original coating have to be stripped off before the silver coat? Is this even worth messing with...will it be easier/better just to buy some silver coated wheels? Thanks.

  2. Seadog, just go ahead and scuff/sand the powder coat and spray them silver. The powder coat will act like a primer. The last wheels I bought were powered in a gray color and I painted them black. Good luck, Mitch

The powder will have to be removed unless you want you paint them.

All you have to do is sand the Powder Coating then paint the Wheels. That is the best primer you can use!

Lots of wheels are now powdercoated as a primer coat so no problem painting over it.
