Trans-go shift kits can be setup to shift only manually. They can be either installed with a mild performance/ towing, firm shifting or firm shift fully manual.

I would stay away from the manual valve body assembly’s you can buy unless they don’t coast in firsts. Some coast in first and second even worse.
By coasting I mean they freewheel, there’s no engine breaking. They are made for drag racing only but I don’t think I would use one even for that.

I have thought about this for my Fairlane project and decided against it.
Rowing through gears in a C4?
You can do that with an aftermarket shifter and still retain the basic function of the stock transmission.
D2L You would have to shift to low and then go up.
Another option is a reverse valve body where it’s L2D.
Even with a reverse valve body, the D should still function.
Of course you may already know this.
    I’m just throwing out options.

My engine doesn’t produce enough vacuum for the trans to shift properly anyways. So you pretty much shift it manually most of the time.

For the street, I would probably go with the transgo -3 manual shift option. That way you’ll still have engine breaking in low gear, although it will be a forward shift pattern. Most of the reverse shift pattern valve bodies have no engine breaking in low because they do not apply the low reverse band. In this case, you would never want to downshift to low unless you were completely stopped.

In my race car I used a manual shift standard pattern C-4 built by a supposed expert.. One thing to be careful about my C-4 had a flair up between second and high using the standard manual shift pattern that really sucked. To correct this issue found the valve body from Dynamic Racing Transmissions in Connecticut solved the problem 203-315-0138. They are well known for their C-4 transmissions and related parts. They updated that C-4 for me which worked perfectly using it we set numerous very fast speed records the highest being 229 MPH.
