Needing a 32-landau bar, I've seen a couple sport coupes with the landau bars removed & hoping someone might have a lead if a (left) side might be available. Thanks, Ron
A lot of the model A mounting hardware is available from Snyder's. It may be the same or close enough.
I have corresponded with a Hamb member who has what is believed to be (1) nos & will ck. the other suppliers as well. Thanks again. Ron
If they are the same from 28 to 32 I have a set off a 30 Sport Coupe that are in the swap meet box. I'm missing one of the lower mounting brackets and the lower mounts are different than the one in the 32 picture.
Thanks Model A Gomez, I'll see if I or someone has a good snapshot of the model 'A' bars for comparison, I do have the damaged left side although bent, gouged & broken, they are brass alloy of some type that in a pinch could be brazed, mine were chrome plated where 32's were originally painted so thought I would forgo the plating & save the expense. Still ironing out the details with the claims adjuster & already come to realize I'll unfortunately be saddled with some out-of-pocket expense. Thanks again, Ron
Really nice to read all the replies, far better than posting a Want Ad that I for one would never read. Hope the needed bar turns up for you. Bob
I agree Bob (The37Kid), the Hamb & Ford Barn can be a real assist in most any facet of our crazy mixed-up world of the auto hobby, all around the world I might add !
The Ford Barn would have a lot more people in the conversations if it was easy ( read that as possible) to post photos.
Looking at the Snyders web site, the landau S.S. clad fastening nuts look to be correct however are 3/8" N.C. thread as opposed to 32's which are 7/16" N.C; & not a big obstacle to remedy. The landau bar photos are rather generic & while similar, are cast aluminum & by the description require end mounting holes to be drilled & some surface finishing, not sure of the overall length as mine are 24" the big issue would be they appear to lack the offset on the one end that enables the bar to index the odd position of the bottom anchor stud. Probably a favorable option if nothing else available & could possibly be tweaked to work. Should nothing be available I may opt to braze or silver solder what I have depending on the quality of the material & how it reacts to heat.
I found a picture of the bars, looks like I'm missing one top mount, I can get a measurement if it would help.
Thanks, Model A Gomez you go beyond the best efforts, your examples are very similar but lack the step at the bottom base where it fastens to the mount., an interesting note is yours do appear to have been plated so may have been available both painted & plated, also the detail on your examples appears much more detailed in the area of what would be the center pivot were they in fact the real deal folding landau bars. Since mine have been replated some of that detail may have been diminished in the process or could even possibly been sourced from a ford supplier as they are cast nonmetallic & have no part numbers which Ford was noted for. I thought the faux bars were a strange item back in the day when we assume everything was the real deal, then of course the body type in its own right is but a design element with the simulated folding top & thusly the faux bars. The prospective buyers wanting the folding top & the security so to speak, of roll up windows, stepped up to the Cabriolet body type. I always wondered if 'Ole Henry' had thoughts to produce a folding top at some point as the cowl, windshield, & top bows etc. are elements of the 'B'-400 & easily done. I often thought were a Sport Coupe in the build process it would be a novel modification to do, or using the now readily avail U.P.I. 5w roof section, fabricating a lift off top......Ala- 5 window/Sport Coupe
Incidentally , out of curiosity I neglected to ask if your landau bars have a casting number ? thanks, Ron
No casting number on them and I measured them after I posted the picture and they only measure 20" from end to end. Guess that answers the question if Model A bars are the same as 32, they were on my 30 when I bought the body. I prefer the cleaner look without them since they don't fold.
Thanks, might be a stretch to fit the 20" bars to fit a 32 that are 24" but I do appreciate the response. And your 30 is 'A' okay ! & love the color choice.
