I bought this hubcap long time back thinkin it would be a great aircleaner. Used the spinner for a new grille bullet. Used the bullet to make a new spinner. A little paint and elbow grease and here it is! Still need to find cakepan to cover the filter with, it will bolt on using the acorn nuts, may add 3 more to even things up. Anybody else made one like this?? Lets see em!
I ran this Olds wheelcover on my Chevy sedan for several years... saw it Saturday and the current owner is still using it.
I got mixed reviews on this one a while back. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=115538
This was the picture that inspired me,, went to a family auction bought a whole bunch of mis-matched hubcaps to get the one I used, after diggin thru the pile there was this one on the bottom. Look familiar? I really liked the hubcap on the blown Flatty, not gay at all. I got 6 bucks in mine and its one of a kind.
I made one of my Hudson caps into an aircleaner for the 51 Pacemaker. Shoulda seen the look on the guy at the parts store when I was rifling through all the filters trying to find one that fit it...
Resurrecting an old thread with an old project. I’ve been working on the engine compartment of my 53 Customline for the past nine years, trying to keep a period correct vibe for an early 60s style (hence the Fenton valve cover, cloth covered wires for the Sun box, etc.) Have tried many types and styles of air cleaners (including modifying the original oil bath unit), but still couldn’t get the right look. Even old styled cleaners looked off due to the super shiny chrome. Had an old 55 Fairlane poverty cap sitting around so figured might as well give it a try. Made the base out of stainless. The old paint on the hubcap even almost matches the car. One more conversation piece when the hood’s up.
