The only thing wrong with being a participant at the Salt flats is you will probably miss out on everything else that is happening! As much as I would like to be a participant it's been a lot of fun getting around the whole layout, meeting everyone and eyeballing all the great cars and workmanship.
I think it takes a dedicated team of people to support, which I admire.

There is likely a class where that engine is allowed.

  4. It looks like the ECTA is hosting an event at Bonneville this year heated towards street legal vehicles. https://www.ectamotorsports.com/bonneville-mile-info/

Another paved option is Loring Timing Association which offers a timed mile and 1.5 mile. But since that is in Limestone Maine that is probably a lot farther than the ECTA paved event in Arkansas.

  6. I agree with the above, if you can pass tech, none of us are getting any younger, if you can swing it (and find a class that'll take you) go for it.

Now, that being said ... I would suggest that you do not assume your car will pass tech, do EVERYTHING in your power to verify that it will pass BEFORE towing to Bonneville. I read a story (on the internet) about a guy in Arizona who built a Manta Mirage kit car specifically for Bonneville (he also has one for the street too I believe). Well, as far as my memory goes, he towed the car all the way to Bonneville from Arizona and failed to pass tech, back in the trailer it went. The next year, he towed out again and promptly blew his engine (I believe it blew before he even got to a decent speed). As far as know, Covid stopped him for the next couple of years. I haven't heard anything recently. Anywho, I'd suggest you contact the operators of the Bonneville event and ask if there is someone in your area that can tech your car before Bonneville, possibly at one of the land-speed events that are closer to you. I know I would absolutely HATE towing a great distance only to find out I wasn't allowed to make a pass.
Below are some links to Youtube videos of the Bonneville/Arizona Manta.

There are some techs that will tech your car on the off season and give you a list of everything you need to do to pass tech

  8. My son and I were first timers at Bonneville after going 2 years as spectators. We ran his turbo Porsche in the 150 MPH class at a USFRA event. We had an absolute blast! We had studied the rules and stuck to them.......no trying short cuts.
We unloaded and ran 150. It took us the rest of the week to make a 150+ back-up run. We were the last car to run on Friday afternoon after noticing the wind had changed direction and ran 157. Great times!
I still remember you and I kicking the snow trying to find the front axle from your '39. I used it under my 33 pickup project.

I bailed out on a build because the driver wanted me to install the door bar to low so he could get his fat ass in the car. We would of been towing from central Missouri.
