After 57 years in business, Chuck's Speed Center here in Phoenix is closed due to his passing, and they are having a huge sale on January 24-26 cash and carry. Everything not nailed down is being sold off, including the building and dyno room. One example is a 40-foot shipping container full of crankshafts in a rack system. Here is the flyer. The sale is during auction week here in AZ. So come out and go to the sale and the auctions, like Barrett Jackson, all at the same time.
I wish the family the best. Holding it the same time as the circus should get the best turnout, but it's going to be tough to grab a bargain.
I can't even get a dial tone! I have a wish list, but most of the stuff isn't going to be there, I'd guess.
I sold some AMX parts to an employee there. He told me they were on the cusp of closing back in August. They stopped doing engine work years ago, just installed crate motors.
There are definitely going to be bargains. What is not sold by the last day gets scrapped the next week so you should go and bring what cash you can. You might be surprised by what you score. This is true, but there is so much there and it all has to go.
BTTT, if you noticed, the dates are during auction week in Scottsdale, AZ, which is about 25 min away from the sale.
Just got back. Chucks son running it. Not a lot of the parts marked. Still lots of machine tools Boxes of pistons but hard to know what they fit without knowing the part numbers. Bought a new AM Voltmeter for $10 and an early hemi oil pan. This wasn’t for sale, cool rod
There was also a pair of early hemi valve covers. Couldn’t figure out why someone would drill holes in them then seal them with steel plugs
Pop those caps, run the valves? Just like those SBC covers you see with holes in 'em. Yes, that would only be the intakes.
How is the sale going? It doesn't make much sense here. since the hyd cams didn't have adjusters, only the mechanical. On a SBC, you can run the hyd valves when running. They still splash, but it keeps some of the oil inside. You can run the valves without the covers, but some used this.
In this case that wouldn’t work. These holes are only 3/4 inch at most. Then, how would you adjust the other valves. Some hard Corp hemi guys have looked at these covers and they didn’t have a clue.
You are right. Yeah, looking at these pics, they don't line up. Note that the heads and VCs are opposite. Exhaust is the long rocker, toward the lower side of the head. Plugs in the VCs are toward the top or intake side. So VC is right side up, then bottom up, heads are bottom up, then right side up.
Just spent 2 hours there today.... Still a ton of stuff for sale. Kurtis is there most days 9-3 -- you can call him if you are looking for something 602-326-5720
