Hi all hot rodders I am looking for some help/ ideas on seats and seatbelts in an Austin 10 I’m building. The problem I have is it’s 4 door car and I wanted to still access a back seat through the rear doors but the front seats are going to have to be mounted rearward of the B pillar so this means I can’t mount the seatbelts to the B pillar. I have tried seats with integrated seatbelts but they are to bulky looking. I have included some photos and hope someone might have some ideas.
Unfortunately in Australia the powers to be would find that is not acceptable as a p***enger may hurt themselfs on them. I need to mount retractable seat belts not lap sach, appreciate the reply though.
on our '41 fordor we couldn't find room for the retractors at the B pillar. would not fit between pillar and front seat. didn't want them sticking out thru rear door opening. sort of dis***embled the seat belts, mounted the retractors under the front seat. had to reverse belts thru the buckle so they laid correctly.
That car only has enough room for two seats, with the firewall set back so far. Good luck, it ain't gonna work.
I have an Austin A8 and I removed the footwells and made the firewall flat in order to put a SBC in my car. I have seats from a Honda CRV because they didn't have all the extra bolsters and width as any bucket seats more than 19" wide wont fit two between the B pillars of my A8. I don't have a backseat, but still use the seat base platform with a carpeted plywood base to put coolers, or whatever back there. I installed a rollbar to attach 4 point harnesses to as really no other way to get good safety belts that I could use. I also deleted the headrests as they looked goofy and I wanted a more traditional look.
