Got the axle tweaked- it’s sitting at 1.5* positive camber. Will try and get it closer to 1.0* positive.
I did clean up my RHD ‘32 spindles and got the setup on the axle. Heated and bent the steering arms to suit the axle. I will heat and lower the steering arms to have the drag link get closer to the wishbone. I’m now getting excited about this car!

A used a piece and steel and clamped it down centre of the axle and wish bone, the end was measured to be the centre of the rear diff, just using the ‘Ackerman’ theory and keeping the steering arms inline with the centre line from kingpin to rear end. Not sure how crucial this is but thought I’d give it a crack.

I lowered the drag link to get it closer to the wishbone for more frame clearance and now it’s time to mock it up in the frame!

 

A friend of mine, Greg made me some leather for a fuel tank and mounts I made. They turned out incredible, BUT surprised me with a set of aircraft belts from believed Canberra Bomber for the roadster. They are going to look great!
The tank pictured will be going into a beautifully chopped 32 3 window coupe owned by Craig Ross and chopped by the one and only Mark Codd.

 

Wasting more time not working on the roadster I decided to make a frame for the print- thought it would be cool to ages it and have it look aircraft-ish. After looking at it I think black might be best. I stuck a shop light behind to give me an idea what it might look like..

 

From extending and making a fuel tank from two oxygen reserve bottles I had ends as surplus. Multiple ideas and contemplating this frame idea. Had fabricated for an images captured by Mor Speed shop I thought why not match the frame with the bottle ends- now lamp shades. More to come!

Mean while, while wasting more time not working on the roadster a scored some great treasures over the weekend. Thank you Cully.


I’m surprising Ben and got some new shoes for his roadster. Was worried the ‘smoothies’ wouldn’t fit the style but actually really like them- once a chrome windshield is fitted it should balance out the chrome too. The rears are 15x8s worried maybe too wide for the tire but again- it’s not terrible.

 

An artist with mechanical skills- plus others- that doesn’t happen in one person very often, keep up the good works.

 

Well unfortunately the roadster hasn’t had much love lately, but I have been collecting important parts. While priming the wheels and front axle for the ‘Radial Flyer’ I began to fall in love with this colour- champagne-pewter-olive-sorta colour. I think I’m going to paint all the moving components under the car in this colour.. tested the rear axle tubes and driveshaft. Lots more to come soon as I’d like to get this rolling for the final (ish) time within the month.

I am just checking in on progress. It looks fantastic so far, and your YouTube channel is the best. It helped me with my 32 Roadster build with a 36 rear end and wishbones.

 

Do you have a paint code or name for that " champagne-pewter-olive-sorta colour"?
I have a perfect use for it.

Well it’s a new year. We are relatively setup in the new shop. And it’s time I start cracking on this. I’ve had multiple melts about selling it. A 33 roadster popped up but in the end it’s still sitting pretty at the shop. So, first things first. I need to get the model a crossmember grafted into the stock 32 to allow clearance for the QC. Then I can start to paint a few bits and assemble the rolling chassis with all the fruit! My mate Jackson had a nice old 29 grill shell and I’ve decided to use it with the Austin hood sides. Also say the 36 Plymouth dash in for a gander. I really do love all the natural patina- lots of character. More to come this week! Also rolled the radial flyer out for fresh light.

 

Also been playing around with some ideas for a license plate topper. Using a Lucas lamp- the round areas on each side with hold a red glass lense. These will be casted and tested! Still have some fine tuning but you get the idea.

Go for the Plymouth dash...Gonna make the Mopar crowd feel warm and fuzzy...

Chris’s roadster from Schoum Garage always has me looking back at it inspired by the model a grill. I think running this with those hood sides could turn out to be something really cool.
Eventually a complete nickel plate grill, spreader bars and few other components will be a nice contrast to the patina.

 

It's refreshing to see a new build with a non-32 grille shell. Looking forward to following along on this one!

A quick mock up with the ‘36 Plymouth dash. It’s going to need some work but should fit nicely. Steering column won’t go through the glove box- I hope… more for mock up. But it’s going to be close. More to come tomorrow.
Need to figure out best way to mount it and also using the upper stock dash rail for the windshield. Also want to utilize the stock tank. so need to think of gauges and location.
