Growing up in farm country in the '50s, you could hear stuff quite a way off. I could hear Gene's 312 OD Ranchero at least a mile off. Y block pipes with steelpacks are something you never forget.
Back in the 70’s there was a 1957 Ranchero with 428 SCJ 4-speed in our town. It could hold its own in most street races
I used to own an altered WB that I was told was built in the 60s and could pull wheelies on the street.
When I was fresh out of HS , I had the Fairlane 428 SCJ 4 Speed , I traded some parts often with a Buddy , that had Custom 300 427 4speed . Black and Silver , I always wanted one . Passed on plenty and pretty much a collector model today .
I can see Jeff Norwell's wife telling him, Just think of me as a 57 Ford ! Now Rev it up and raise that Tachometer ! Bwha ha aha !
LEGAL CHEATER - Was sold in 1969 with a guarantee it would run under the NHRA record it held, Raced for a couple years and then parked. I helped the family sell it to a new home back in California. Class winner at Winter Nationals.
