Just caught this thread and I gotta' say that windshield is just the "nuts". Quite possibly the finest piece of craftsmanship I've seen in a long while. Keep up the great work. A true inspiration!

Heres the steering column and shaft.

Using pretty basic hardwere shop materials like exhaust tubing, weld-on bungs and oilite brass bushings.


Steering shaft is splined borgeson. The flange is old 1958 vespa rear hub flange what i had shelf.



Also made column bracket and support to dashboard and second mount to the brake/clutch frame

Long-awaited part of the build was steering wheel.
At first i had in mind 50s steering wheels, one buick and one oldsmobile. But the 18 inch wheel diameter is just really big for channeled model a.
In my taste at least.

So i started thinking other route, and ended up buying vw beetle steering wheel, because it has 15,5 inch

Hudson horn emblem looked cool and was avaible in ebay, so thats what im using. Horn ring was broken but does not matter because im only using the emblem.

Emblem has crackling efect from ageing, but it looks pretty cool

 

Got to say you workmanship is amazing. Such detail making welded parts look like they have been cast or forged.

 

I had bought this old ( maybe 40s ? ) bicycle headlight from swapmeet past winter.


That old bicycle headlight and hudson emblem was match made in heaven


There i had an route to start with.

Moving on to trim. Made from stainless steel. Same style as the dashboard trim.


Bits and pieces. Everything made from stainless steel.

Welding was very tricky because that ribbed piece is made from very thin stainless steel sheetmetal, and has to be grinded and polished.

And short cut to finished product. Lots of everything in between. Grinding, polishing, fill welding, grinding, polishing this x10. And figuring out how to mount everything.
That half loop horn ring is also from stainless steel, welded on. For looks only

It's almost as thin as tin foil, after all the grinding and polishing ! Couple Pinholes left but it keeps getting thinner and thinner every time. Time to let it be

At final stage i'm going to paint the steering wheel. Maybe ivory white, or maybe some sweet candy.

 

Heres my take on the radiator.
Problem is the extreme tight space with channeled body and sweeped frame.

I didnt find any hotrod radiator low enough to fit in there.

Experimental outcome is this Honda civic 3-row rad, electric fan what covers whole core, and expansion tanks which are also the mounting frame.

Oh yes and so Hamb aproved stuff... again

It's 100% experimental if the small radiator does the job to keep chevy motor cool.
Hoping it does, and if not, probably only way to go is custom precise size radiator from some rad shop

 

I’d argue that finding an existing radiator the size you need instead of having one custom made is more traditional anyways.

that being said I’ve seen the Honda radiators used very very similar situations and it worked just fine.

 

And if that 3-row is not enough, there is 4-row avaible to try.

 

Now i have been working on brake lines for a while.
Started to job with rear flex hose.
Also made this little helper. The brake and clutch master cylinders are cowl mounted, so making it easier to disconnect if, and when, needing to lift body of the frame

I build diy flex hose clamp. Makes no sence but it was faster to build one, than to order factory mount
