I WOULD LIKE TO SEE WHAT THE STOCK OIL BATH AIR CLEANER DOES. ON MY BROTHERS 1955 FORD 272 2 BARREL. TAKING THE AIR CLEANER OFF WOULD INCREASE THE IDLE SPEED! NICE VIDIO, THANKS

Excellent comparo! I ran the speedway repo Edmunds, short filters, on a pair of 2Gs atop an Olds 425
for a time. I'm curious what result they would produce. My engine guy said they weren't providing enough air. Switched to the "tall" version, somewhat better. I switched to a single Eddy 4 barrel , but if I revisit the 2 x2 I would get the Nystroms.
    And they look BITCHIN'!

It just amazes me the simple screened frogmouth did so poorly.
I’ve had no luck with the k&n elements in my thickstun air cleaners.
I’d love to see what a stock oil bath cleaner would do. IMG_1780.jpeg

  6. U cannot feed an internal combustion engine 2 much air/ I have built many flathead ford and Merc engines. My last one for myself was a stock stroke(3 3/4) by .080 over bore, mild cam, bigger intake valves, lots of time spent making the ALL exhaust ports noticeably larger,BIG BORE INTAKE GASKET WITH PORTING TO THIS LARGER SIZE. The engine dynoed 148 h.p. To the flywheel and the car (32 Henry cabriolet hiboy) ran 80 mph in the 1/8 mile and was driven daily on the streets—-how did this happen?? I believe the homemade air filter had a lot to do with it—-also the PROVEN EDELBROCK SLINGSHOT(19 hp difference on the cool looking Thickstun). The air filter was designed for a 6 cyl flat Porsche that ran a “3 barrel Weber” on each bank. The engine ran so well that I ran .048-.049 jets over the stock .045 jets. Homemade base and homemade top looked overkill on the engine but it all worked. IMG_1609.jpeg IMG_1611.jpeg IMG_1737.jpeg IMG_1608.jpeg

Do to my hood cutout and clearance issues I can only run my 3 frog mouths forward facing. My dyno pulls were all done with a 4 barrel and not the 97s so I have no evidence to back me up BUT...my roadster runs nice with the frogs facing forward. Every year or so I put the short OTB Gear velocity stacks back on, I cannot tell the difference in HP or performance between them. I run no air filters other than bug screens with either scoop.

I do have a supercharger on the flatty churning the air so that is a factor.

Even though I can open the hood without removing the velocity stacks, I prefer the frog mouths for pure aesthetics. I added thumb screws to them to make them easy to remove for hood opening.
