    It's not all black :)

To me it has the perfect amount of shiny on it for a truck. Seems like you're just saying it's the lack of shiny wheels you don't like?

A new build from Vancouver Island, B.C., Canada unveiled at the show. Not in AMBR but to me it has more appeal than most of the AMBR cars.

He's been building traditional hot rods and restoring old racecars since the 1970's. I'd trust his judgment 24/7/365.

It’s a shame that car is not going for AMBR. Looks like it could have been a contender.

Can't imagine anyone better to represent the traditional viewpoint in judging these cars.

The picture you posted in the post above shows the truck in a different light. Obviously green and black. That was not obvious viewing the other photos on my phone. Nevertheless, it doesn’t look like AMBR material to me. And it sort of cries out for wheels with some color or texture, anything but black.
Like I said, just my opinion, everyone has one.

Don Lindfors is a HAMB member, he's judging this year. I saw Pete Eastwood in one of the photos, he's a HAMB member.

In my .02 worth opinion, I’m picking the RadRides 36. Their details are always over the top. Not many could pull off re proportioning a post 34 Ford roadster in a fender less style and make it work. And this one works. I will say this though, when it was featured in Modern Rodding in bare metal, I liked it better than the finished version. I'm not a fan of their color choice, but then again they weren’t building it for me. :D

As much as I like that rp more every time I see another photo of it black or seriously dark (green in this case) it is real hard to pick out the details. Vehicles with no nothin on them do not show all the work and time and ideas that went into them in an indoor show. We see the details because we are looking past the blank black wall and hunting them out but indoors in poor lighting a lot will not. In fact every time we see someone else's photos of it we see more just because of the angle or lighting or photographer's skill. Put that same truck outside in decent lighting and it will rock you right out of your socks.

Sorry but that thing looks straight out of a hot wheels package rather than a decent hot rod build. I'd be pulling about 3/4 of that clutter off it and throwing it in the swap meet box starting with that silly tank on the front because you saw too many photos of McMullens roadster when you were a kid.

  11. I saw the AMBR contenders in person today. I thought it was interesting that all except one had the usual roped off, square display space.

The roped off cars were getting very little attention from the spectators, while I was there.

The one without a spectator barrier had the biggest crowd. The builder was standing there talking to everyone. The energy was like a party.

    Another good job Troy.

  12. Here is a video walk through of the "35 Chevy Slonaker car as it was going through final assembly. The attention to detail and work that goes into these cars is really remarkable. Some highly skill people building all of them. Whether they are to your taste or not you have to appreciate the skill involved.

  13. This was built by a friend of mine from basically a couple rear 1/4's and extra bits and pieces. He is an incredibly talented builder whose hands are basically magic wands. He can build anything, make it look easy, and then make it look like that!

Yep, and as far as I know he's not one of the ones beaking here about what an AMBR car should or shouldn't be. As I said, that's what I was referring to.

He's not on here talkin' about it, he's there gettin' paid to do it! :D
I hope that anything I've posted includes enough respect and a disclaimer that I'm a rank viewer looking at pictures, not there and certainly not qualified to judge except as an interested observer. Offering which ones appeal to me, not (aside from the fuel filter) saying any are bad or wrong.
If the point of posting pictures of a national contest of top end competitors vying for the title is supposed to only elicit supplication to the mastery of every entry, then Yes every one is above and beyond my design talents, technical skills, long term tenacity and financial wherewithal.

After going to the GNRS yesterday the 32 RPU is still my favorite.

Very nice car. No big ugly headlights. Same size tires front and rear. Good idea. Carry a spare.

I never liked the lines of a 32 HIGH grille shell. But then you would have to build your own hood & hood sides. Too hard to do. Nice tire sizes and no ugly huge headlights. Just like the old days. I'll bet Wanlass can't keep up with the orders for the ugly totally out of place windshields. Can you spell sheep?

I am crazy for shiney wheels but don't mind the black wheels on this truck. Every thing I build is about proportion. What about the loooong bed?

Really nice color combination. Sure glad he did not chrome plate the door hinges. Then they become as Lil John would say. Hiccups. PS: I'm a chopped top freak. I own 4.
