I’m not sure what the future of “traditional” car shows is around me here. Most shows around me, including those that invite hot rods, customs, classics and chrome bumper cars always seem to have a lot of cars that are not “traditional” to me. We see a lot of “street machine” type cars. Late model (well, late model to me) circa post 1984 seem to be hugely popular because they were really popular when they were originally sold and are still relatively easy to buy, modify and register/insure. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that, but because the scarcity of the “traditional” type cars, we just seem to have enough. As well, the real big hot rod type shows( the once a year type thing)are usually held a long way away from me but from what I see in magazine coverage of these events there is really not a lot of “new” builds attending. Again, nothing wrong with that, but it’s a sign we don’t have a lot of new blood coming into the hobby. I have taken to just driving my old car when I can to just enjoy it. It’s not a show car, not fast but it puts a smile on my face everytime I take it out. That’s all I suggest we all do. If you meet someone when you’re out and about and they take an interest in your ride, take some time and talk to them about it and what our hobby/lifestyle means to you. You could be talking to a future hod rodder!

26 T Ford RPU, Gofannon and agshelby like this.
  2. Yes Cars and Coffee park ups, i find they are full of egos and clicky groups... don't attend many of them.
As for trophies at shows, my Roaster Pick Up has never got one but i don't care and most Judges are only looking for high dollar and bling, the very things i'm not into. BUT what i like is getting one of our cars in a Magazine, last year was great as i got in the Petrolhead Mag more than once, NZ Hot Rod and in several issues of the stunning Mag NZ Rodder and in the lattest issue a 15 page feature on the RPU and my Belly Tank project...... thats worth more than a lame trophy. :D JW
