It was nice of owner Russ and builder Troy to choose a Supercharged V-Block for power…. A nice touch.

That car was, without question, the nicest car I have ever seen in person and I loved it.

    also entirely off topic.

My first glimpse of the car on move in day, and I just knew it was extra special. I couldn't stop going back to look at it.

I've been to Troy's shop, and it is definitely laid out very well, along with a talented crew. They knocked it out of the park. Kudos to the Rad Rides team.

  6. That car looks amazing and could just imagine all the time into engineering the suspension parts and stuff most will never see.
Congratulations to Troy and the Rad Rods Team.

These builders keep raising the bar every year it will be hard to win without a scratch built car anymore, one of our club members saw it at the triple crown and said it was unbelievable.

I'd say that one raised the bar a few notches but it does resemble what you would expect to see out on the fairway at Pebble Beach in August holding it's own with the most exotic of the pre war era. Read the article that PPrather posted in post 6 even if you never click on and read those things.
I like it a lot as it is a car that you could actually pack your stuff in and head out on a cross country road trip in and not just a fairground princess.

  9. Rad Rides are always built to be driven. I've cruised with several of them on long hauls.

I've known that all along but have seen so many rods over the years that look fantastic but in reality you wouldn't want to drive for 100 miles one way. My late bud Ron Moore's 29 A roadster was one of those because the firewall was indented several inches for engine set back and it was far more uncomfortable to drive than even my old T bucket. He wore flipflops most of the time he wasn't working and drove barefoot and had a bit more room. I drove it 40 miles one time after he ended up in the hospital with kidney stones at an indoor show and we had to get the car home and it took my right leg a day to recover.

  11. Beautiful car. I've always admired Troy's craftmanship if not his styling decisions but this one I could live with. Yeah, it's way over detailed to be a true traditional build but that's the reality at this level. But unlike some of the recent winners, it does look like a hot rod. At least it's not painted some babyshit color...

Not surprised, as earlier stated. It's not hard to see the over the top attention to detail on this one. Well done!

Since seeing the car in person this weekend I have been obsessing over the power steering box. Looking up some Modern Rodding articles on the build it turns out to be from CPP's 55 Chevy PU kit with a custom bracket by Troy.

    Noe what about the exhaust?

  18. It would be difficult to measure but I think this one has more custom made parts than the past winners. Ross Myers name keeps recurring. He certainly has been successful. :)

I definitely see a heavy Posie influence in the top and windshield.

While I’ve admired Troy’s work for years just reading this article on how he and his team approach a job gives me a better appreciation for his creations. Certainly out of my reach, but I never lusted after anything of that caliber, I’m perfectly content to look and enjoy. The car is beautiful and deserving of the award.

Love '36 Ford Roadsters no matter how "cut up " (in a good way) they are. With all the one off detail work on this one they probably ran out of time to spend looking at paint chips. JMO which is protected in the First Amendment of the Constitution.

Came here to say what Kelly Burns just said a few posts up. Looks like something Posies could have built fifteen years ago.

the workmanship on this car will rival ANY coach builders of the classics and foreign sports cars ever made! Look at the youth of Troy's fabricators and builders!!!!!!!

  25. not to put down anybody or any of these great cars, but Troy's crew should get more attention, Troy didn't build this car alone, he & his crew did.
They should list everyone who helped build this car.
How much was spent on this build?
...I wonder how many miles it will actually get driven.

And it cost how much ?

  27. Troy did build some parts for the car. He is still active in the shop. The main builder was Adam Banks and Casey Modert helped as well. Hence the picture of the three of them and mention of both of them by Troy in the Hot Rod Article posted.

Consider that Ross Myers commissioned the car and there were likely cost overruns, that doesn’t matter and it’s not for us to care. Trepanier clearly gave credit to his crew and I’m sure they are well appreciated and compensated to keep them on staff. Borglum sculpted and was paid for the design for Mt. Rushmore, a car for the GNRS or Ridler Award is no different, the cars are art, just of a different nature.
As @pprather mentioned earlier, he’s personally been on long distance drives with Rad Rods builds before.
