'57, 2dr. Utility Sedan, Blown BBC, 4 speed, 9" Ford rear. Rear wheels are '60's, ETlll's 2 piece, 10" X 16". Is Towell City & Hoozeir the only game in town for rear rubber? Will be running on the street more than the track. Thanks!
I have Radirs on my gasser. They have a traditional pie crust design and ride well on the street as well as the highways.
I'm on my second set from towel city. I like the look of them, But they are recaps as you probably know. The first set lasted for a few years no problem. I did do some burn outs with them, but really not that many. My car had a 327 in it and wouldn't turn them very hard. They get sticky fast and they are soft. I keep a close eye on them and noticed a funny buldge on the contact patch on one tire so i replaced both. Fast forward to my second set now with a blown big block in the car i have noticed a vibration from the rear end. I think these have flat spots from sitting or maybe seporating? guess well see in the spring. If i ever go racing i would get something new. Couldn't tell ya how they are on the freeway my car has 4.56 gears and a short ratio 4 spd.
M&H rep advised me not to buy there DOT slicks if I planned to drive very many miles at normal freeway speeds. He told me they're designed to drive your car to the strip and run down the drags, not designed for miles and miles of street driving. Towel City are not really what we think of as normal recap as they stopped building their cheater slicks on used casings about 3 years ago. All Towel City pie crust slicks are built on new casings, so they're built just like any new tire, not a recaps. I have Towel City slicks on both of my cars and taken 1300 mile trips at freeway speeds without any issues. One car has had them for 12 years now and 14,000 miles; the other just 4 years and 6,000 miles. I wouldn't hesitate to buy them again if I ever wear them out.
The tires i have on my car now are about 5 years old i'm guessing, My vibration might be a some other issue. I need to check out drive line angle this spring.
I like the Radirs BUT not fond of the Whitewalls even if you put them to the inside. It's one of those things I don't mind looking at them on other guys car/trucks just not mine! M&H is out if what you said is true and I have no reason not to believe it.
Problem solved. I sprayed SEM black coating that is flexible when dry to cover the white wall situation on the inside of the Radir slicks.
Sorry I can’t find it either, I know in the past they would not ship in cold weather months due to freezing.....
