Installed a v8 into my 48 oldsmobile. I like to run headers but even block hugger headers hits steering box . I researched and see that you can put shaft on other side. Is there any other options? I am not sure if I have the know how to do that . Can you add manual rack and pinion?

Moving the engine over enough to clear is an option.

Yep. Just run the wires from the wheel down to each spindle. But don’t cross them or the car will turn the wrong direction.

"Electric power steering" is just the setup that goes under the dash and on that Olds would replace part of the steering shaft. Normally there no part of it out past the firewall and that is a bonus for us old car folk because we don't have to run a pump and a power steering gear box and hoses and clutter up our engine compartment.

My computer is not behaving so I cannot edit this screen shot off Ebay but on your Olds you would replace the U joint on the shaft and the rest of that end of the shaft with a coupler that connected it to your modified Olds Steering shaft to convert to power steering.

Back to the question of clearing the box, all too often we have to do what we have to do to make it work. My motor manual only goes to 46 so I don't have 48 Olds steering info in front of me to look at but it may be a serious challenge to swap steering box and linkage to have clearance.
