Hey guys so my front end on my ‘63 Impala is squeaking. I replaced the shocks and body mount bushings. I’d like to replace the front end joints and anything associated with making the car handle properly and not squeak. I’ve never done this job before . I have basic tools, jacks but not specialty suspension ones. I can buy or rent any tools that would be required. I was considering buying a kit with all the ball joints, tie rods, etc. what would you guys recommend? Any good videos on YouTube that I can follow? Thanks

  2. Avoid Chinese parts regardless of price. Much of what Moog sells is made over seas, but I would still buy it unless you find NOS, or old Moog stock on ebay. If you have air in the shop use a air powered pickle fork to separate ball joints, and tie rods.If you dont get a pickle fork from Harbor freight, and a hammer. You tube has how to"s on making a spring compressor with a threaded rod.If you dont have a press to do A arm bushings theres a tool you can rent from O"Riellys that pushes them in,and out by hand.

I'll state the obvious...make sure everything is greased up first before tearing it all apart, that may be all it needs.

  4. The squeak is likely the lower control arm bushings, so those have to come out. Possibly the upper arm, but lowers are the loudest from my experience.

I did my '68 Impala over in 1986, had it stripped down to the frame rails.. good times.

I use an air chisel to drive the old bushings out. Then a hammer & cast iron pipe fitting from the hardware store to drive the new ones in. A block of hardwood will work too.

Aren’t the front end suspension parts pretty much the same from 1950’s-1970’s ?

  7. I would say that '61 to '64 is a good family of parts to choose from. You should order up a catalog or 2 from some suppliers.

Even Rock Auto is pretty accurate for getting the right parts.
