This water slide decal has been on my 1/4 window since my dad put it on in the late 50’s or early 60’s. I’d like to ID it and try and locate or reproduce one. I’m probably going to polish the glass soon as well. Thanks for the help everyone.
Vanna, I'd like a few more letters! Best of luck, the brain trust here is amazing. xxxxSONVILLE OREGON? or FORD? JACKSONVILLE FLORIDA? not enough space for watsonville california
@nochop do you have any other info or memory of the sticker? Speed shop, dragstrip, just a location, or ?
Thanks, my dad raced this car probably in Sioux City Iowa. We never ventured out of South Dakota or western Iowa.
Our family is from south east South Dakota and dad raced the strip in Sioux City, Minnesota and Omaha Neb. I was probably about 6yrs old around that time
Admittedly it’s a long shot but here goes, @Moriarity mentioned Florida and right away I thought of Crane Cams. Harvey started south of Jacksonville, then later was in Hallendale IIRC and finally Daytona Beach. I looked for early decals he used but this is the only one I saw online, it’s not a match.
Perhaps a speed part he got from FLA, since it sounds like it wasn't a track or vacation spot? The car looks like a fun, yet serious little rod. The last line of Black text might have the R registered mark or an end quote mark at the end, but the thing just before it that looks like a magnifying glass is throwing me. It's not anything I've seen. I used to have a program for images that would sharpen, fuzz and flip colors, but that was many boxes ago.
It does appear to have enough letters to make out Jacksonville Florida. Other than that, it looks like the sticker was black, red and white in an oval shape, but I'm sure you already know that.
That crane cams seems like it’s not that far off. Jacksonville seems “easy” to read was Garlits ever out of there? most hotrods with a sticker about that size from that location would be a thunder valley drag way sticker but they really does look like florida does the bottom right hand section say nationals?
Doesn’t look like nasa or nas ever had one like this either. I think it was an oval and the red in the middle is more lettering I’m really leaning towards it being a drag strip. maybe thunder bolt raceway?
Thunder Valley is also the closest track to me in Oklahoma…. As far as the sticker, the closest one I found last night when I decided to try to look some was that Crane Cams that has already been posted.
Fortunately for you it's a cool looking decal! https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/schooler-cams-dragster.426240/page-2#post-11441746 About 10 years ago HAMBer @triton6972 had a couple original decals
I knew the hamb would get it! Hot damn! @guthriesmith i brought up the South Dakota track because the building in those old photos of the car being built are a stones throw from where I grew up. I believe NoChop was actually born one block from my childhood home! Anyhow that would have been the local track other than the Sioux City stuff which I believe was earlier but I’ve never seen a Sioux City sticker
Impressive @Phillips ! I tried putting it in photoshop and filling in gaps and I thought it said "NOT TALK" in quotes but it didn't help to ID it any, I couldn't figure out what that would even mean. Makes way more sense now.
Funny part is I was reading about lost race tracks a while back, which lead to an article about Jacksonvillle Raceway Park, which mentioned Schooler Cams, which I remembered and searched, and of course it ended up at another HAMB thread. tldr: ALL ROADS LEAD TO THE HAMB
