Statutes are "odd". Law, not so much. OP could've been forced by judge to make a bad choice like that. Reason I made the suggestion(s). OP PM'd me, all is good.

Mr Yonkee offered to make the repairs and before I could even say anything the judge said

The plaintiff is not under the burden to allow you multiple opportunities to fix your failures the fact he gave you a 2nd opportunity is more than was legally required

Mr Yonkees defense was the car is just worn out and everything was installed correctly he also made the statement that I do not have the financial means to restore the vehicle

Therefore I'm just trying to Cobble the car together , The car is just worn out

I never asked to have the car restored because I have no desire to restore the car I personally think the car is cool as hell the way it is

A 1934 Ford with a patina paint job sprayed by Earl Scheib back in the 1960s

With 36 Ford bones and an 8-in rear to me that was the perfect start of a pretty damn cool hot rod

it does not take Oodles of money to get a hot rod running and enjoyable it takes some research competency a bit of skill

    Or an honest compitent shop

the gentleman that corrected the paint on the car made the comment

A paint job out the 60s with this patina is so damn cool you know a lot of people pay a lot of money to make their paint look like this

my experience with Mr Yonkee started in October of 2022
One of the reasons why I have no desire to do a frame off is I think the car is pretty cool the way it is

The other reason is a personal observation of mine over the years has been when cars get blown apart for full Restorations I personally think probably only 25 to 30% of those cars ever see the road again

I am not basing the statement in any fact it's just my personal thoughts and observations

In preparation for my court hearing I drove by traffic jam speed shop there are four or 5 vehicles that were at his shop when I initially met with him in 2022 that are still sitting outside in various states of being butchered

When I looked at those cars I thought that could very well be my car sitting there next to those I am so glad I am done with this circus

I'm glad to learn it's all behind you and you've gotten closure with the guy. Not that I haven't done sketchy stuff (not knowing any better), but this was obviously negligent.

So glad you won, but I sure hope he pays up now! I'm looking forward to seeing the new thread you start as you make the repairs as they should be done. Glad this forum was used to help you point out what was done, and the judge could consider input here too!

The thing that kills you is he has the balls to charge someone for work he thinks that's good on a beautiful car he may think it's a shatbox so he can just cobble stuff together and call it a day and and say well it wasn't that great of a car to begin with. He needs to go out of business in my book. To bad you can't find out who owns the other cars to get them out of there before he puts his hands on them. Good luck.

That's sad to hear, TillValhalla. Try to get your car out immediately and if legal action is required hopefully you get the same judge.

Maybe if there's financial penalties forcibly extracted from the shop as a result of the original poster's win it will help drive the guy out of business.

Well my car is still there. I spoke with him today claims it will be done this weekend. I will give him the benefit of the doubt. I do have all pics and correspondence between us. And an attorney on standby. I do not want to get caught up in a mess. This car was my first attempt at a “resto” and didn’t know how to navigate in the car world. He seamed to me to be a straight shooter but I am definitely vigilant now after learning more.
I have to stay positive and hope he does right by me.
If not I will cross that bridge head on.
I have many new contacts/friends that are experts in restoration and hot roding eagerly awaiting to verify work completed.
Until then my fingers at crossed.

Bro, you posted first with this issue in June of 2024. It's now February of 2025. What has this dude done on your car in the last 8 months? When my car was in for body and paint, I received an itemized invoice for the work performed that month. I paid my invoice in full, and work kept progressing on my car.

What work is it that wasn't done in the past 8 months but is now going to be accomplished by the weekend? Sounds like total bullshit to me.

We've all seen the ordeal the OP just went through. Anyone that sticks with this dude and "gives him the benefit of the doubt" deserves whatever they have coming to them.

Yeah. Go look at your car today. Bets are that it’s no where near completion. And he only has three more days.

Here's what I would say to the gentleman who is currently dealing with Mr Yonkee most likely you have spent tens of thousands of dollars with him and unfortunately when you shell that type of money out a lot of people look at things and say I'm so far into this I got to give him the benefit of the doubt because it's hard to accept I just got taken for 20 $30,000 or more that I can respect I wouldn't do it but I can understand that thought process

Now from a realistic standpoint a tiger cannot change his stripes going back to his first arrest in 1998 the owner of this shop has shown himself to be a convicted felon a "frequent ineractor" with law enforcement fast forward to 2025

27 years later, Robert Yonkee is currently being sued by another customer in Wisconsin court where Robert Yonkee botched a restoration of a 1940 street rod and the gentleman got taken for several thousand dollars all this information is public record the gentleman found this case in December of 2024, and the matter is currently waiting to get a trial date set

Mr Yonkee is a member of this forum and in my court case he printed off copies of the comments that the members here made and was complaining to the judge that the comments on this board make him look bad

Finally I'm sure you guys are wondering how is it possible this man does such terrible work but he keeps getting customers I included a link to an exclusive a local news station did about his shop in December of 2024 forgive me I am not a technology guy hopefully the hyperlink was uploaded correctly

Can’t make a silk purse from a Sow’s ear . I think years ago I had the man’s brother as an operating surgeon. He put for screws into good discs and missed the bones installing hardware in my neck . It happens , take it somewhere else to someone qualified to make the repairs . I did and haven’t looked back . If this so called surgeon ever comes up missing / or was punished , remember I was at your place working on a hot rod with you .

  16. I like how he uses the word "MAGIC" to describe what they do to cars. We've seen his magic here first hand and his ability to make money disappear. What a clown.

The comments do not make him look bad. The pictures of the work are what is doing that.

Don't get me wrong, I am not defending him in any way whatsoever.

Its easy to see why people trust, and get taken in by him.
Nice looking shop on the surface and he presents himself well.

I can tell by his hands that he is in the office and not doing the actual work in the shop.
Probably has no idea how to do the work he sells, he has employees do it.
Granted, there is nothing wrong with that, providing he knows how to, and is able to do every aspect of the actual work he sells.

After 44 years of being hands in the shop in the automotive business, I can do every job that I take in the shop.
I am a firm believer that any business owner has to know how to, and is able to do the job right in the first place, or the likelyhood of hiring the wrong people or the employees running all over them with bs is a high probability.
The finished work needs to be inspected by the boss, but in his case, he probably doesn't know if its right or wrong to begin with.
That's too bad, because he apparently suckers a lot of people.

Or maybe his is just a scum bag that enjoys taking people for a ride.

Too bad, because stuff like this gives reputable shops a bad name. "We are all crooks etc"

The lack of a reply indicates the finished product is most likely so horrible the poster is in the process of gathering pictures and information as well as legal counsel to proceed forward and does not want to jeopardize his lawsuit by posting details

If this is the case which in all likelihood I would wager it is that would be the third time in 18 months this operation I refuse to call them a repair shop is being sued by a customer

I just really hope and pray other people read this and he does not get a fourth victim

sorry you had trouble, we all figured you would.. I removed the picture of your car. it is off topic for this forum as we have a strict 1965 cut off rule. You are welcome to talk about the problems you had and ask for advice though....

    Including subject/verb agreement.

Seriously though, I'm sorry this happened to you. Unfortunately, this was predictable.

I'm not sure the year and model of your car but you can also start another thread in the O/T forum if it's inappropriate for this forum. That might be a better bet since you're probably going to want to post pics so we can see specifically what issues you're having. A picture tells a thousand words.

I'm very sad to hear that not shocked but very sad

Robert Yonkee is exactly what he has portrayed himself to be for 30 years

Probably wise to keep information close to the vest until after you conclude your lawsuit

The best part of this will be when you can finally enjoy your vehicle and get it back on the road and you can put this entire mess behind you and the icing on the cake would be if this guy is put out of business so people's cars and pocketbooks are safe
