My 35 0lds project is 25 years and going started with a body two doors and a hood close to finishing but waiting for motor parts I find it easier to post on the what did you do today threads.

  2. Honestly my observation about this forum is many of the guys that can be butt nuggets on here are likely super cool in person. I've met several hamb members in non Internet life and got along great with all of them. I think the story on your car just described that observation

I may put one together when I get to the point where I am pretty close to the ready to drive stage. I've started one on the truck board I am on but that isn't moving fast right now either.

  4. I think I have a thread for each of these, but also other life events not alot of progress gets made. 28 yrs old got wife and 2 little ones, working on getting into a house and out of living in a travel trailer!

How are you searching for them? There is a thread that is supposed to list them, but I have/had at least 3 build threads, but none of them appear on the "master list". Not sure I even have "build thread" in the title, either.

  6. I fully agree we need more builds, but can you blame people for not wanting to post when they have to deal with people nit-picking and with how they used the wrong terminology or how the parts the builder is using don’t meet with another member’s taste.

Their is a big difference between offering a suggestion/option and harping.

I made a suggestion on @The Chevy Pope’s build thread but it was clear he had a plan so I let it drop and sit back and watch the process.

  7. I honestly feel the debate part of a thread was important. Even if you go with your original plan you still end up rethinking it so you don't do something you may regret

you just send the link of the thread to a Paul and he’ll add it. He’s not actively searching out build threads for the index.

to Popes topic there actually are a shit ton of active build threads going but you may miss them for a couple reasons.

the biggest is people clicking like on the post instead of actually commenting and engaging. When you click like the thread does not get pushed to the first page of the forum and it continues dropping further back for less and less people to see. I often open the hamb and go right to page 9 and work back to page one. I find new threads every single time.

If you have a slower paced build and are the only one posting your thread will rarely be in the first ten pages, and after a while it feels like you are talking to yourself and all this extra typing and photos feels like waisted energy and the thread dies.

guys this is a social forum. You have to engage for it to work. You comment on their threads, they find yours and do the same.

even if it’s just “hey looks good” that’s bringing it back for more people to see and is at minimum a little encouragement to keep posting

@The Chevy Pope , No doubt. I was a bit abrupt on yours and deleted it. All of us keyboard warriors have little holding us back from sharing opinions. I am sorry if it was negative.
I get that each of us have an idea of the project and it's direction. There is a thread on being tired of homogenized rods and with this much historic background the 'rules' are pretty tightly defined.
A thread on building a copy of the Jim Street version of Grabowski's T would be pretty polarizing, to say the least!
    street t.jpg
That said, all of us would rather see another out on the road instead of abandoned in a corner, even if it doesn't fit our own taste! If someone really wanted to have their car look like the one in the thumbnail, and wanted a hand ID'ing a part, I'd try to help. Better another T out there than a Hyundai EV.

@Tim good point! I've liked a bunch of posts, but if I want to follow along, I've got to either comment or go to the top of the page and click on Watch Thread so it comes up in my notifications. There are a number that I've had to go searching for when I've wanted to check in again because I didn't 'Watch'.

Build threads are always one of my favorite things to go through and follow along with on the forums ive been on over the years for my varying car interests. Nice slow several year projects showing all the little trivial, tedious things of what people came up with to do and what can be done in a home shop or pro environment. And as someone who usually has a build thread going, getting the feedback, different solutions, ideas, tool, little thing to buy to solve an issue, is a big positive that comes from it, and also if i can show someone how i homebrew/ mickey moused something together, even better! I also think its a good way to keep myself a little motivated, showing like minded people whatever im cobbling together in my garage. maybe im just lucky, but i dont think ive really received much, if anything in the way of negativity/ nit picking in my thread on here. Definitely some constructive criticism which i always welcome, but even that has been prefaced with positive sentiments.
Ive been not great at keeping the build thread on my 1937 Buick updated, but i also spent a good portion of last year building an off topic car for someone, but if anyone wants to see a "Slow and Poor" 1937 Buick coupe build, some big block edsel wagon work, and some other cars i work on sprinkled in the mix

My build thread wasn’t in the master list for a long time. Eventually, I messaged the mod of that thread and let him know and it was added the next day. If you want it added let them know.

Tim, Thanks for the tip on starting on page 9 and working back to the newest post. It is always a surprise to read a post for the first time then find out it is one or two years old and you have missed all that info when it was happening live. I think the build title is to blame some times.

  14. Lots of build threads get 1 or 2 responses and a few likes...while the garbage threads on BS get pages.

If you want to see build threads, they need more people to comment on them and be active.

  15. Why isolate build threads to a thread about build threads ???
Why not let them be mixed in with the general hamb index.
By isolating them it doesn't help any new younger members to gravitate to the hamb.
Another thing that doesn't help is all the bashing, arguing and derailing of threads, it just reaffirms to the younger crowd that the hamb is just a bunch of old crotchety bastards, so keep that in mind when you wonder where the new blood is.

I agree, I been involved with car clubs of one kind or another for 54 years, and I've seen quite a few the bite the dust because no one saw the importance of showing the younger generation how great the automotive life is. I also go to the local cars and coffee and we also have a roster club that meets once a month. I pay attension to the younger individuals (guys and gals) and give prase of their work...belive it or not they enjoy getting complenents from old bastards with a smile.

@swade41 dude, they aren’t. Paul just went out of his way to make a list of build threads. An index, to make it easy to find new build threads. They aren’t segregated in any fashion I’m not sure where that idea came from?

Anyhow, most guys probably scroll right past it with out even realizing that it’s there. IMG_8272.jpeg IMG_8273.jpeg

every single one of those threads is in there with every other hamb thread. It’s just a linked list.

Thanks Tim! I'd like to thank Paul for taking the time the compile the BUILD INDEX.

  19. Guess I should clarify how I noticed the lack of build threads by active users. Often on a thread I'll see someone mention doing something on a particular rod or post a pic on someone else's thread that gets me interested in learning more. So I got to their profile to look for a build threads. Often not only do they not have a build threads they'll have little if anything in reference to said car. And rarely anything on said modification.

Ok, Just as a point of reference after 20 years on the HAMB, I can't remember ever checking a fellow members profile. Like real life, you do or say something that makes a positive impression and you remember that person, or the car he is building.

  21. Honestly that's how I ended up paying attention to most of the build threads I keep up with. Basically hear something cool and decide I wanna hear more lol

There's others too, smaller stuff, making gas/brake line brackets, chopping the top of my 31 tudor, radiator shell mods, how I made a radiator shell rod bracket that attaches to both the radiator and the shell to take stress off of just the aluminum radiator.

Bear claw latches in my A, 38'ford dash in my A and other odds and ends...

    ...

  24. Honestly I feel this thread is a success. I've seen at least one new build thread started specifically as a result of this thread. And that happened when this was still on the first page lol

I sent them to him once, but I'll give it another shot!

Some of my builds to put in the build list, if they are acceptable. Thanks!

One more thing that can alert others to a build thread is to include it in your signature.
You see a good post and notice they have a build thread at the bottom, BAM another thing to check out.

  27. The answer to this is to not give a shit what other people think, I look at suggestions but ultimately I build my junk the way I want, some dude on the internet doesn’t bother me a bit.

I'm building a 65 Plymouth Sport Fury Big Block car, I need to take more pictures of the process and start a thread. Basically being built as a mid 60s street racer.

I was going to start a build thread on my truck, but I suffer from "squirrel syndrome" (the rodent, not the HAMBer) meaning I get distracted easily. I have lots of projects started, but not a lot of progress on any of them...
