The Creature putting in dues lol

Discussion in 'Off Topic Hot Rods & Customs' started by The Chevy Pope, Feb 5, 2025.

  1. Figured I'd put this here as some of the vehicles she'll be working on are ot. First on the docket is a 78 f250 I've been restoring for my boss. Painted cab and bed at separate times simply because when I did the cab and front end he didn't even have a bed for it. It'd spent 20+ years as a flatbed on a farm and he wanted to turn back into a pickup. Unfortunately the guys completely screwed up the colors. With the truck at one side of the shop and the bed at the other the colors looked the same. Installed....not so much. And it's a semi transparent paint so I'll need to redo entire paint job to get a matching color because five months later and the paint guys still haven't figured out the darker green. In comes @The Creature . Next year she's likely starting votech for auto body. And has agreed to come to my job on a Saturday and help sand the truck for a repaint. And all for the low sum of a mooneyes shirt, some taco bell, and her own personal da sander. Not sure if it'll be this Saturday or next Saturday but will be soon. Other upcoming projects she'll be doing is sanding and painting a hood for my dad's van(with my supervision), helping prep my trunk on my 53, and helping sand and weld and peak the hood of my 53 along with finish bodywork on same hood. And other projects tbt. Told her any time she helps she'll get another hot rod shirt lol

  4. Pics will come as she puts hands on. I'm shooting for this Saturday. Figured if I went ahead and made the thread I'd likely get more pics on it than if I took pics first then made the thread lol

Y know, you only have to sand half if you can get a match!:p
Is this going to be a long block leveling or a DA scuff?

  11. But of both. When I did the bed I'd screwed my eyes up when a couple chunks of metal cutoff wheel flew into them so it ended up with some very slight waviness. So I'll long block those sections. As to the match.....the correct color is semi transparent. The wrong color on the cab is significantly darker. Easier just to sand all the paint thin so it lightens and then respray all of it

You know I was joking. If you got to repaint half and try for a match, you will end up painting one, then the other, then...

  13. Oddly I NORMALLY don't have any issues with colors matching between different batches of paint as long as one of the young guys mixes it. But on this truck an old guy mixed the first batch and got it off. Young kid that mixed the batch for the bed nailed the paint chip perfectly. And despite them scanning the first batch they still haven't come up with the paint code so we're putting in a work order for them to pay us to respray the whole truck. Hold on I'll dig up a pic of an example of how good the kids were at matching the paint

15 years ago, there were 3 paint shops in the area. We're down to one. Back then, all of them would defer to a young lady for any important custom paint mixes. I have no idea where she went. That rep should tell you how good she was.

The old guy dribbled some mystery toner in the first batch. Coffee? a bit of chew? We may never know...

  15. This is an example of how good the kids would get the paint code. Did just the tailgate no blending. even the metallic came out right Screenshot_20250207-075954~2.png Screenshot_20250207-075954~2.png

  19. I left her new da sander by her bed when I got home last night as encouragement lol. She actually seems fairly excited about it

Looks like she worked her little butt off today. You should put a dust mask on her. Her lungs will thank you, believe me I know. Looks good!

  24. She was a butthead and wouldn't wear one. If she goes with me to paint it she'll wear a respirator even if I have to threaten her with a sock and a banana peel (inside joke lol)

For her own good, you need to insist that she wear a dust mask even though she doesn't want to!
