I like the build threads too, and I try to have one for all my on topic stuff but I often forget to take pictures while I'm working on them. I get in a zone of progress and forget to document things, so most of my build threads are disjointed, poorly photographed, or updated big chunks at a time. My hat is off to the well curated ones.

Also, most of my time over the last 4 years or so has been dedicated to fixing up buildings instead of cars. Hopefully that's going to be done soon and back to builds. I certainly have enough unfinished projects.

That is why none of my projects will ever be completed. Distraction, and interests in other things, plus the lack of money, and an occasional bout of realty. Start a build thread, it is a bit like American Pickers, just fun to see what is in someone garage.

This one has been languishing now for years! Lack of motivation, other distractions, everything else seems to take precedence. It's now a roller with body on frame and waiting on unreliable other people to step up to the plate and assist.

It’s no secret that I love build threads and always have. I always tell folks that no update is too small, and I mean that. Every post is an opportunity for someone to learn something.

Here is my current build. I have considered doing a build thread, but I lack the knowledge of starting and maintaining a thread. Is there a tutorial on how to start a new thread? 20230423_080504.jpg

  7. When you go to the category of your type build (in your case traditional hot rod) there's prompts to help you along. Then just make a title saying what you're building. Then in main body just talk about what you did/are doing/will do and post pics as you have them

Ive seen a lot of updates in the ;what did you do today' thread, but not seen many if any of these as builds, which would be great. I really like the build threads, have picked up alot of info and ideas from them for my 40 and other cars.
My build thread gets updated as I do stuff, which can have large gaps in because of ;other stuff' going on, and its been going a long time, isn't as 'special' as some builds on here, but its good for me to look back on progress, and appreciate that actually, this could get finished :)
I have noticed tho that even tho I follow and have email notifications on a lot of build threads, the notifications often dont come through, and I stumble across updates by chance.
Also like all the tech stuff, there's a lot of clever people on here.

That's where I post on my car - my build is neither here nor there, it is more or less as one would have modified a 64 Comet for fast road driving back then but I use modern stuff too (modern disc brakes, 5sp gearbox) and as things stand at the moment it would not justify a full build thread...

    To this point -

As someone who's "newer" to traditional hot rodding, this forum can be a a bit unpleasant to folks who are just excited about their build but might not have the skills or means to do everything the HAMB approved way. We could all be a bit more helpful and encouraging, and maybe just choose to scroll past if its something that doesn't float your boat...

It can be tedious to take the time to put a build thread together, but I agree that we need more of them.

I break mine up for 2 reasons.

1- it's easier to do small threads as I go vs. One big thread.

2- and the biggest and main reason is for newbies and my own preferences. Like I did the frame build separately from the crossmember building, body mounts in a separate thread etc from the point of view there are many that have bought a frame but just need to add their own crossmembers or bought a car that just needs floors, etc.

It's easier to find a build thread that deals just with that item and reading that verses looking through a build thread that's 25 pages long just to find that one certain area they are dealing with. Also too with smaller separate threads it is easier to follow and answer questions that pop up.

Like building my own jig and making my own gas/brake line brackets. That thread is short, to the point, has all the info to do it and real easy to find and copy.

But that's just me, don't expect anyone to follow my thoughts, heck sometimes I have problems just following my thougts myself !!

  17. Honestly most of the people I'm referring to don't even have those type of threads. Let's say in your case you posted a pic of a model a you built that grabbed my interest so I got to your profile to hunt threads on it. I'd at least be able to find information on major stuff you did like say what suspension modifications you did and any work to the frame. Most of the guys I'm referring to would just have really generic question threads etc. like had they not posted whatever it was that got my attention in a random thread you'd have never known they'd ever even touched the car in question

I try to keep my build thread updated, but a lot of my current projects on this car are a lot of little tedious things. Also I feel that when I post something on my build thread I really don't get any responses so I just start a post with any questions.

I love a good build thread.
I gotta agree with this observation.

Here's the current build thread I have going. Most of the time when I post updates, it's the same 3-4 guys that respond.

I think my 5W build is right on topic for the HAMB/Traditional Hot Rods, but sometimes I wonder if anyone is paying attention.

I feel the same way. A lot of build threads get next to no comments (I’m guilty of following and not commenting as well) so it feels as if no one really cares. I started mine to contribute some knowledge and to make sure I’m not doing too much shady s$&t. There are a couple of regulars that comment which is what keeps me going. And I haven’t gotten called out for being too much of a hack yet, so I guess I’m doing ok.

Be assured we pay attention to your every post. Two weeks ago I left home, drove 1000 miles to see : The Nethercutt, Marcel's, SoCal, GNRS, Lions, NHRA, Waldon's and nealinca. I drove miles in LA traffic, walked miles in museums and fairgrounds and yet I saw pictures on line of cars I didn't remember seeing. Two days, tired feet and knees and ADD I totally spaced out building 6. Old age is a bitch. I wanted to say Hi, see the 5window in person and ask "How much is a rebuilt F1 box for my '32?

post it on the off topic forum!
As an aside that place is almost all build threads when ever I go look over there

  28. I have a few but everything is stalled right now, I just have enough will power and time to keep them running. That all will be changing in the near future I hope. I've said it before....stupid work is getting in the way......and it's been REAL stupid for the last year.

Click on "Slight progress??" in my signature area and it will take you to another post with all the links to what I was doing. I didn't want to list them in individual links down there.
