Hey folks, working on my 1939 ford pickup doors and pulled the windows out. One window has trim around it, the other does not. Can anyone tell me what this window with trim possibly came out of ? Surely not original to a 39 pickup, but it fits just right within the channels etc. Strange.
Here's a better picture showing the window trim. Should 1939 Ford pickups have this trim? If not, any idea what this window came out of? It fits great.
That cab, with variations, was used for 10 years. Over that period both types of window glass trim was used. At times both were in use at the same time depending on the build location. There is a difference in the window channel, but both types will fit in the door if the correct glass is used with it.
You can go either way, with the trim or without. There is no difference in channel, as far as I know. Either style window will fit, due to the lip on the trim being the same thickness as the glass. Only difference would be the overall size of the glass, when going with or without trim.
The cab was only built 2 years, '38 and '39. '40-'47 cabs are totally different but dimensionally the same. I have never seen the metal frame around the door glass on a '38 or '39, have seen it on many of the '42-'47 Jailbars. The latches and window regulators are the same '38-'47 and I THINK (not absolutely certain) the door glass dimensions are the same. Could be that someone got a used glass with the metal frame out of a '42-'47.
Good stuff guys, many thanks. I don't recall seeing any 38s or 39s with the trim either, but then again I never looked very hard. I will look online, but I know there are not many pictures of the pickups with their window(s) partially up/down to really tell. I'll also take a closer look at the 42 - 47s as well, but do any of you guys own a 38-39 pickup with the trim around the window? The bottom channel on my window with the trim is slightly different from the one without the trim.
