Hey guys I installed a 4 speed Muncie in my ‘63 Impala and the stock Speedo cable is too short. Does anyone know which new speedo cable I should get that’s 5” longer? Thanks

If you measure how long your old one is, then you could add and see what you need.

Eyeball how many more inches it will take to reach. Pull the old cable now since it isn't doing anything now anyway. Measure it. Add the missing inches. Buy a new cable. Celebrate.

Try NAPA, tell them its a 64 Impala with a Muncie four speed.
Not that it matters much but curious if the speedo outlet on the Muncie is on the same side as the three speed, some GM cars with Muncie four speeds were between the shifter rods, some were on the opposite side of the tailhousing, a knowledgeable parts guy might ask.

  6. Mainly just look for a stock application cable the right length. Gm used the same ends a good long time. In my 53 bel air I have a 57 Chevy cable connecting the original 53 speedometer to the 1977 th350. And it was a regular stock cable at O'Reilly. And they gave me options on length

The cables that you can get at the parts store now only come in a couple lengths, 63 and 83 seem to be most common. If you pull yours out and it measures 58 or less, you need the 63. If it's longer than that, you need the 83.

have fun, make sure to grease it before you install it.

You can buy and extension cable for it but looking them up they run just about as much as a new longer cable.

Unless it is hell for hard to get up under the dash to the speedometer and get the cable out most of us would just figure out how much longer a cable we need, pull the old cable out and head to the parts house and tell them you want one at least x inches longer or look it up online and go in with a part number.

I went to the ATP Automotive site, looked up the lenght needed then searched amazon for that part number. I think it was less than 10 dollars.

  11. When I put a Saginaw 3spd o/d trans in an old panel I had, the speedo cable was short. I went to the local speedo shop and had them make an extension cable. It screwed into the old cable and trans.
