Ford 427 SOHC engines

^^^^^^I took a copy of that ad to my local Ford dealer a few years ago and told them I wanted to buy 50 complete engines and 50 pairs of the heads and intakes. They laughed and said so would they. Hindsight is always 20 20.

 

Almost enough to put another one together!

 

I don't remember ever seeing the Ford ad with the complete engine listed with a price. But at my age, remembering is also a thing of the past.

I think I've read about that blower somewhere, don't recall, were these water cooled originally, who made them, what were they used on???

 

I don’t know if I have ever shared this on here before or not . But here goes , I worked in the Parts Dept ., of a large Ford dealer in Cinti ., just out of school . Two of the older men , there would travel to inventory other Ford Dealers parts . They would sell the outdated not selling NOS parts to other dealers such as Green Sales in Cinti. . One of them comes back from NC and says guess what I purchased from the dealer stock ? I’m like I don’t have a clue ! He says a 427 SOHC in the crate . Sure enough in a few weeks he was unloading it from the Ford delivery semi with a fork lift . It had a dyno tag attached 749 HP at 7100 RPM . It went into a 69 Cougar Eliminator . The Cougar had a 351 W with a stroked crank and 318 Mopar connecting rods . It would rev like a Stihl Chainsaw . The owner had a drinking and drug issue and ODed soon after this . I haven’t a clue where the car went but I know the family sold it for 65K in the early 80s . As best as I can remember the Cammer cost him $3500.00 . 1/2 of parts employee cost .
