  4. You could maybe do the same off the part number on the backing plate.
There were some 57.25 wide rears but with your dimpled housing and no oil drain/fill hole it doesn't correspond to the correct years.

you have 10 inch brakes so that is nice
go on ebay and buy two rear cylinders of a 65 to 70 mustang from john woolfe racing, they are about 23 pounds each.
    they are 7/8ths though
    they may be alright......

oh and what will really confuse you now is
I think you have a heavy duty case, that NEVER came standard with
SMALL BEARING housing ends. ford never made a heavy duty case that narrow stock
these bearings are 2.88 inches around
big bearings are 3 and a smidge inches - -
so you do not have big bearing axle ends
    early or late style
the actual t-bolts that hold the back plate to the bearing housing on yours are 3/8 10mm rather than 1/2'' big bearing versions, you have the aftermarket t-bolts

anyways worth noting here is if you are pulling the shafts and your bearings are 2.88'' w202 - -is
you will need to buy two paper small bearing gaskets and two oil scraper gaskets

so your axle was a lets say a 60 inch wide heavy duty case axle and someone narrowed it
what the perculliar thing is - why is it axactly 57.25'' wide
i.e. that is 65 to 67 ford mustang width
    BUT
you have what appear to be 31 spline big bearing half shafts
now I only know because I had some that a 1971 mustang big block car runs these same shafts and brakes
i think its 59.25 width though
they are 31 spline shafts with the bigger drum register
the innner diameter at the bearing IS the same as the 3 inch big bearing at 1.5 inches
but its a 2.88 outer dimension

    so there you go.

what i cannot fathom is how you get a wheel on when the leaf spring is so close to the narrowed axle

oh and the brake rotor on the floor looks like a volaire or 74 charger disc

and your rear drum looks like a 1980 ford ltd

    or simply
in 1967 ford take a 8'' axle fit the tubes and bearing ends into a 9'' centre
take 31 splined shafts cut to 57.25, fit the adaptor rare beearings 1.5'' to 2.88
    run the 2.5 backplate
    fit a 10'' 2.5 drum
fit it into a 67 shelby cobra something or other that 1. needs the axle tubes to be 2 3/4'' rather than 3'' so they can run the stock leaf springs/saddles and stuff

  6. This may well confuse you further. If it has indeed been narrowed then the width will have been to suit the A-Body Mopar it's sitting under (photo removed by Admin - no idea why?).
The rear tyres are 245 and are very, very close, to both the leaf spring and the wheel arch trim.
The half-shafts and diff are 28 spline.

  8. No problem, thank you for the explanation. I knew I'd seen later stuff on here but I now see there is an "Off Topic" section so was probably there. Apologies for posting the photo.

There you go, by way of retribution for the '71 model photo. Here's my '38 instead :)

Meant something totally different in the late 60's and early 70's. :p
