That windshield frame will probably confuse a future owner ... Love what you are doing with this. The mellow channel is great. We all have different tastes and as I get older the less appealing to me are those heavy east coast channels, except maybe on a Model A coupes with a heavy haircut too. For my mind you nailed it here.
Man,. I ended up matching a complete set of early for 5 on 5.5 chrome reverse! This is the way- that way I don't have to redrill the hubs or rear banjo and can run early 40 wheels too if I want. I ordered a drill guide to drill the drums for the Buick to 5.5" bc. And I'll just run a cone in the center like they did back in the day... and swap the www's onto these.
I welded up the holes on the Buick drums I drilled for the small bolt ford and redrilled for the 5 on 5.5"... I machined the ford hubs to fit snug into the Buick drums. I need to order the studs and then I can clearance the drums on the brake lathe for the backing plates and turn the drums. Can't wait to swap the white walls to the 5.5" 15x6 reverse wheels and get axle setup with 40 brakes. Studs to do this are: Dorman 610-039. Knurl dia. .625", shoulder length .719" Thd. 1/2" 20, under head length 1.625
Anyone have a single 46-48 ford hub? Putting in the studs I fucked one up... it bent it- I didn't have it supported right in the press and it happened so fast I was like DaMnIt!!!!!! Anyway... shit happens. A pal sent me this pic- it's Bitchen!
Non sequitur... but check this out, My buddy Sam Nelson found me this Bitchen Tree CNC mill-! Hauling it home here soon. The control works great. Im so excited, this is going to be fun to make hot rod parts with and prototype dies etc.
This is a good example of what happened to the majority of these old bitchen channeled 32 3 windows and other cool hot rods.... people changed and updated them and they're still here in plain sight its just they look lame now... LAME. haha- VIEWER DISCRESSION IS ADVISED! Example of the above car Copied from Kustomrama- Only the body, grille shell and rear nerf bar still existed from Conrad's creation when Kim went to check it out in 2000. Dudley had gotten rid of the Chrysler Hemi and replaced it with a 327 Chevy smallblock. "His reasoning was the lack of speed parts available for the Hemi. Dudley unchanneled the body filled the roof and placed it on a reproduction frame with a Kugel independent front end, 327 Chevy w/ Turbo 350, and a Maverick rear. A machinist friend was making billet parts to accent the coupe." Photo courtesy of Kim Jordan.
Unbelievable... Dudley should have done what he wanted with a new kit car instead of butchering a gennie hot rod with history. Advertise this hot rod here on the HAMB so this original hot rod has the excellent chance to be preserved the way it was back in the day!! Just my 2 cents...
Man the car is coming along really nice, can't wait to see it in its full glory. Congratulations on the Tree mill. Does it have the conversational programing? While I could write my own code, conversational is so nice for quickly banging out parts.
thanks Brady Thanks Bennett Thanks Tim, stoked on this. I also found some nice 40 backing plates for this car I had squirreled away and a steering hoop. Little more work and I can check the basic front end stuff off the list. Thanks Jeff and 10-4 Thanks man and yes Sam said it did have conversational and it's supposed to work great, he was telling me how awesome it was to do some quick operations- looking forward to this. I had different motivations when I was younger... but as I get older I wish I had heeded the advice of a great uncle who tried to get me to buy a mill and learn machining when I was 17... I've had my Bridgeport for about ten years now and can't imagine life without it. Looking forward to having new capabilities. Tuck
