can anyone tell me what this pump is its on a flathead ford i bought from an auction the ford motor has Hilborn injection on it but the pump does not say Hilborn on it it just has some number and letters E 309 and what looks like BL #20 or it might be BL 420 hard to tell
I've never seen one that small, I've read that early injection used war surplus pumps and that may be what you've got there, I'm not saying it is a bad thing at all, its just a very early one. Theres quite a few alcohol pump repair & testing places, try giving the guys at AlkyDigger a call, if they don't know anything about it they'll be able to steer you to the right place. Neat little pump. The pumps are rated in Gallons Per Minute @ (typically) 8000 engine RPM, that one is cam drive so the pump speed is 4000rpm. I'd guess a couple gallons per minute? maybe a little less and probably be about right for a flattie. It just came to me that the guys at the Sprint Car Museum at Latimore could tell you all about that pump! I don't recall its proper name, something about the Eastern Museum of Sprint Car Racing?
That's a Hilborn BL420 pump. Good for about 380HP on methanol @30% return flow. Flow test results for my one are here: Technical - Hilborn BL 420 pump | The H.A.M.B. #Count'nCarbs FED runs one, here: Projects - K-88 Dragster / 6 Cylinder | Page 8 | The H.A.M.B. Comparison of flow to many other injection pumps (Hilborn, Enderle, McGee) attached in the pdf below. If you need them, I have a detailed step-by-step overhaul notes/photo document... just need to find where I stored it. Cheers, Harv
