Lol... now that made me laugh. Not a bad comparison to a bull ride. Huge power out of the gate, and it wants to turn sideways at the start of an 8 second run :).

    Cheers,

Looked like a old A/Altered leaving the line.
I wonder if 'back in the day' that would be it's classification.

True that modern safety features don't apply to our cars. But SFI belts and cages don't meet DOT specs even for our car's time period and the debate on if they are safe on the street is for some other thread on some other forum. Joel's coupe is a purpose built race car that he drives on the street occasionally. That's his deal and his car is deemed HAMB friendly so my statement is still correct. Note I said most not all HAMB friendly cars are more street. You said you built your car in 60s race style, yet your car was definitely street friendly and you had certain creature comforts that would not be on the typical purpose built period dragster. Yes you like to race your builds, but if you had to choose between being able to drive them on the streets and participate in events with them or just race them on the track, which would you pick? Your builds that I have seen show that build some great great cars and I hope mine turns out half as nice. On a different note, I did lose a little respect for the SICK drag and drive program when they allowed certain people to take cars down the track that definitely couldn't pass tech because of who they were. You can find those exploits on that tube place. if you don't know what I'm talking about. If I ripped my 51 down the track in the 9s without any type of cage or roll bar, would they let me run the next day at the next track without one?

great pics, thanks! Yeah, I know some of those guys....

I have no use for a car that I can't drive on the street.

This is a problem...not just there. The Duct Tape drags are like that in Tucson, and I expect there are still some "outlaw" tracks that get away with this on a regular basis.

The drag and drive thing sure ain't perfect. But it's still a lot more fun than the normal race car thing, where you haul your car to the track and back home every weekend.

I agree with you completely on being able to drive it. What good is it if it can't be driven on the street? As for the Drag and Drive thing, I haven't given up on them. They blew it letting the influencers influence them in the wrong direction. I saw they wouldn't post the times, but they let them continue to run. Everyone makes mistakes. The true measure of the event will be if they let them continue with that foolishness. We were all young and foolish (to some degree) and probably did some things to make our cars faster, run harder, or corner better that wasn't exactly the safest modification. But if someone was to repeat the unsafe car stuff because they saw an influencer do it at Sick anything, they could get hurt or worse and who would be to blame? There was talk of continuing the beater event at Sick Summer. Hopefully they rein it in before then. At least if they told them safety has to be tied for first in their endeavors. That would be the right message and then let the fun continue. I love the concept of drag and drives. Back when drag strips were plentiful, who didn't drive their car to the track and back home? Doing so was a badge of membership in the gear head brotherhood. The only time you trailered was when the race was too far away to afford to recover the car if it broke.

After getting caught up on a few other things that got laid aside while I was thrashing to get ready for sick week, I finally got around to checking out the old Hemi.
It has a cracked cylinder bore. I suppose I'll tear it apart and get a sleeve put in it if it's not extending down below the bottom of the bore.
I was hoping that it would be an easy fix, like a head gasket. But as I always say, "hope is not a viable strategy."

Ouch. A head gasket would have been nicer. If there is any upside, a cracked bore is better than DIY'ing a large, irregularly shaped freeze plug. Good luck with the sleeving.
