I’d go with a SBF too if I was looking to do a swap in this type of Ford. A big plus is you get a distributor up front.

a sbc is going to eliminate about 70% of your potential market if you ever want to sell it and also a sbf will not make you angry everytime you do a show with the hood up. People like me just can't help themselves from making comments.

Unless you are talking pre WW2 I am a firm believer in not cross breeding engines in cars and trucks. There are always exceptions but in general Ford in a Ford, GM in a GM, Chrysler in a Chrysler. I have a Studebaker Lark and it is all stock but if the 259 V8 ever gave up I might consider putting something else in it just to get it driving again. I have p***ed on buying several Fords with a Chevy in them over my 60+ years of driving cars, just my opinion. Mark

I'd stick with a y block and overdrive transmission. Either a AOD or T5. It's what came in it and with the OD I doubt you will notice any difference between a sbf or a y block from behind the wheel. Unless your planning on a high hp build then cost wise a sbf makes more sense economically.

So I went with a 351w and I'm looking for a fmx or c4 transmission to go with it. I appreciate all your recommendations and insight..

Glad to hear that you went with the Blue Oval. I'd be interested to hear updates on how the install goes. I currently have a six in my 54 Ford but eventually want to do a Windsor swap. Keep us posted.

The FMX weighs a ton and the C4 is not all that great for highway cruising, if you have the stock rear end which had 3:90 rear gears you would be turning about 3200 RPM @ 70 MPH, if you use the AOD with it's .67 Overdrive you would be turning just under 2200 RPM at the same speed. You will find some good info on that in the "Sticky FAQ"
