The first one must be just to qualify. Then the average of the two runs needs to be so the driver/vehicle will be the new record holder after certification.

Don’t know on the head. The one we used with Joe from 1996 thru 2004 was pretty wasted so he used one the new ones he cast up for the one he had in the Ferguson Streamliner. When we partnered up with him he told me the engine we’re using was the same one he used in the Studebaker in the 70-80’s. I don’t know which head George Campbell bought from Joe or when. George (rip) has been gone for quite along time now. I’m pretty sure each of the originals from Tom Skinner had a number stamped on them. Joes new ones do, at least mine does. So does my Arias/Howard.

JD's right. First you gotta break the record, then back it up with an average that breaks the record.

If your head was number/letter stamped you would have seen it by now. The ones I’ve seen were on the rocker cover rail at the back. The Inliners International tried to get a registry going but I don’t know how successful they were. It was for each manufacturer, the id # if it had one, and current owner. You could include history if you knew it. I have 2 but both are 2nd generation and I didn’t own them when the Club was doing it. I believe Pat Smith was heading it up.

As I remember Joe had 003 and 007 but no number like that. Tom only made a short run maybe 15 and Joe did the same in the late 90’s or early 2000’s. I went to the foundry he used and saw them stacked up along with the core boxes. I believe there were 25-30 but many were scrapped as bad pours..
I know at least 2 heads were stamped with owners drivers license numbers so they could identify them if stolen and it was successful in one instance in Utah.
Are you going to split the exhaust flange?

Jimmy Six question on exhaust manifold: may be concerned steel expands differently then aluminum head & can break studs or bolts. Had same worry but your run time maybe short enough not to be a problem. Maybe, I hope.

  19. What material would you suggest for the header on an aluminum head? Stainless? Cast iron? Is there a gasket material that would adequately insulate the combination? I know folks run steel headers all the time on small blocks Chevys with aluminum heads.

  20. We weren't planning to as there is a stud right in the middle of the two middle cylinders. Do you suggest splitting the flange?

I started by using gasket material from the power plant I worked in at first 1/6” Drabula and it was an off white. At the end Joe said no gasket and just red RTV. The headers were steel.

Is your only oil filter the l from the one to the tank from the pump?

If you choose to use a stick on heater on the tank make sure install insulation over it or 90% of the heat would be wasted. I used to make them for guys at EL Mirage and Bonneville when I worked and had access to all the materials and tools it really cut down on oil warm up time prior time to start up.

Everything sure looks great and well thought out!

  28. Thanks, I've split the header flange into 3 pieces. We'll probably use red RTV as well.

Currently the filter between the tank and pump is the only one. Do you suggest an additional filter?

Regarding the heater and insulation on the oil tank - John and I haven't talked about this so not sure what his plans are.

Thank you for all your input and advice JD!
