Downtown San Juan Capistrano, across the street from the Mission San Juan. Hello, So Cal has a long time history in the coastal communities. From ocean front beach attractions, to large farms inland, now being “farmed” out (pun…could not help myself..) due to rising land values and any size real estate calling for top dollars in today’s market. The 60s in coastal So Cal as it was in most communities. But, this community was one of those ones that had a ton of orange groves growing all over the hillside and was well known as as a big part of ... Orange County proper. Although, it was many miles away from the center of Orange County. As we drive through the area, today, the hillsides are no longer covered with orange groves, but now are housing and businesses. The freeway expansion brought more development and cleared the land of the well known orange groves. We do see a small enclave of orange trees replanted in a hillside of new homes to make the area somewhat from the history back in the 50s-60s times. But, one has to search for those trees. But, as little communities grow with the times, some history still reins true. The old hotel Capistrano location still has red tile roofing, white walls and is a part of the continuing reconstruction of one of the oldest communities in So Cal. Think back to the first mission in the long line of California Mission history. The swallows still know their way back... Jnaki As old construction still has its roots, there are still days when walking in town or shopping, one will see, old cars and trucks. There is a bevy of new construction within the limits of the historical society guidelines. YRMV
