rebuilding after the crash

  1. It's a runner. It was fired up for the first time Saturday. Next week we will get the whole crew for a fire up. Immediately following will be a crew party. Video will be shot next week. All I can say is it's not the same car. More boost along with a bigger cam made it jump off the car lift. Crazy stuff.

    Could not wait Brian ? I know that feeling there's been times, thinking about a change or what to do jump up put my clothes on go to the shop 2 or 3 AM and play with ,
    Car jumping off your Pro Jack's. do you have pin's to lock your car to the jacks or you just raise it up on the frame,
    I now lock / Pin my car to Jacks when I would run engine , especially wrapping the throttle,
    I one time did a dumb thing,
    Had a big blown engine setting on Floor
    Be fore install, I switch to short dragster Zommies , Funny / Dragster oil pan ,
    Strapped to floor , fired it up , brought it to temp, Blipped throttle about a 1/4,on a Buzzard hat
    About 5,000 rpms , engine I shifted over 9,500 Rpms Tall BBC
    It broke loose of straps , flipped over against injector and blower still running,
    Luckily I did not have a soiled 1-1/2 fuel line from tank to pump , , it kinked off , keep fuel going everywhere, laying almost upside down still funning before I could get to mag kill switch
    This engine power was little over

    Yes, I freaked out,, most the crap I have done , It was like a drill ripping out of your hand , except close to 1000 pounds, I've been a one-man thing , my father was there but had no idea really what I was doing , I scared him in my blown 69 camaro 35ish yrs ago , low 6 sec 1/8 street car was fast then on L 60s

  8. 20250216_165800.jpg 20250216_165750.jpg 20250216_175655.jpg 20250216_175703.jpg I put the car on the car lift. It's never ever sounded or responded like this. The cam was the last part I needed for a true nitro combination.
    Today's fun besides snow blowing for over two hours was mounting the racepak. The blower needed to come off to mount a junction box. The drill didn't have enough room. I mounted the egt boxes. I ran the cables. Everything is connected at the engine. The engine is back together. Several other wires still need to be connected. Then the racepak needs to be programed to sync with the sensors. It was big progress today.

  10. Just a line in the casting. The stage five intakes are heavy duty pieces for nitro duty. They can handle intake explosions. I just wish it wasn't so heavy. It's aluminum. Mag intakes are for 14-71 blowers. To run a 8-71 a adaptor is needed. I dont want to do that.

    Thanks for all the updates. Looking forward to the video and hearing the new combo run. Would be really interesting to see some data logging and subsequent adjustments from future upcoming events if or when time allows of course. The time and effort put into this car is amazing.

    Amazing stuff here, so much going on at once, and everything is critical! Over the last year I’ve been getting to help on a couple really serious Bonneville cars and it is very much a lot like what you’ve been doing with your car. The commitment to go really fast has to been over 100% or the consequences can be more than a pile of junk parts! Thanks to Ryan for setting up this board so we can watch in awe what you’re doing!
     
  13. A mount was made to hold the driveshaft sensor. It needs .050-.100 clearance between the sensor and magnetic ring.
    With all the sensors mounted it's time to run the wiring. The engine is wired so far. Now I need to connect the computer to the sensors. 20250218_161653.jpg 20250218_172447.jpg

    Is the tailshaft sensor a Hall effect one (with magnets on the tailshaft), an inductive one (mebbe detecting a notch or drilling in the tailshaft) or some other form of electrical sorcery?

  15. A simple magnetic design. It's like a light switch. On off the revolutions are counted. Mine has 4 magnets. Every 26 inches or so a event is recorded. This recording compared to rpm tells if you are spinning. Shock; air pressure; four link settings etc can be adjusted for a faster 60 foot time.

    Those little magnets must be fixed on really well (Crazy Glue? :)). I'd imagine that tailshaft goes from nothing to a bazillion rpm in the blink of an eye, and then some vibration.

    Got me curious, as I recently fitted a crank sensor to Number One Son's car. It's the inductive type. Stupid me then put the engine in, and broke the sensor on the front swaybar. A shorter one will fix that drama.

    Magnets they set down in a pocket
    Blind hole , Step hole , from inside .
    Big side faces the pinion / Yoke
    I'm sure Brian will explain it better

  18. They are pressed in. They won't come out.
    Let's talk about these yoke rings. They come with different magnet configurations. Four is common. Some have as many as sixteen.
    Sometimes the box determines the number. A older box might only allow four.
    The reason to run more has to do with how sensitive it is. At the hit when the tire rotates a four magnet will alow the tire to roll further down track before a signal is sent. Think of it as fine threads or course threads. With fewer magnets tire slip could occur and be missed on the recorded tracing.

    I my self over the years have had to do, Yoke Ring & ect , that I needed to drill & square off bore / holes to add more magnets as Technology changed .
