I saw this on another site so I copied the picture because I thought it might be of interest to someone on the Hamb. Thats all I know about it. also, a handy way to store your vice grip clamps..........again, someone elses idea, not mine.
I like both of those ideas. Of course to use the first one, I’ll have to convince SWMBO that I need a lift! Maybe if I tell her it will save my back… The other idea is good. I currently just clamp them to an angle iron that forms part of my workbench. It’s getting quite full, I keep adding ViceGrips. It’s been added to since this picture. They touch each other from end to end. And there’s 3 new ones to add… It’s sickness I tell you, a sickness!
This just confirms to me that I have a wholly inadequate collection / selection of vice grips / welding clamps! I must try harder. Story of my life!! Chris
I like the crane adaptation. Just remember that the lift rating assumes a typical wheel spread a car would have to distribute the load along the ramps. You have to derate the lift capacity quit dramatically if you have a point load lifted from the longitudinal center of the lift. for example, I can’t lift my 8000 lb skid steer with my 8000 lb lift because the wheelbase is insufficient to properly distribute the load along the ramps. My LWB pickup at 8000 lb would be ok (although I have an 11k lift for that) Not that you’re ever going to lift anything that heave, but something to be aware of “just in case”. Your lift manual should have information on load distribution and how to figure this out. I’ve been contemplating a gantry crane, but this might be a more space efficient approach.
@ekimneirbo ,I would like to be as ""Organize "" as you & some others Here , Nothing fancy , My Two post Lift , I am sure others may have done this I have done several engine this way, Being a One person show , This was """ Risky""""" I did NOT allow anyone in the shop for over a week if I had a visitor! Balancing a body on Jack poles 7 foot in Air , No Bolt's !!
I'm only "semi-organized", I have to label things or I forget I have them. Once I take them from their resting place and use them, then sit them down "somewhere"...........I have to hunt for them. I think I have about ten pairs of glasses around here. But Thanks for the compliment.......... I do think if you made one of those overhead cranes using your 2 post lift posts for the main support, you would use it a lot with all the stuff you have.
I'm a confessed "toolaholic", if we get a few more guys maybe we can start a support group for our addiction.
Hi, my name is David. I have an addiction. I collect tools. Even when I don’t have any use for them. It doesn’t matter what it is, if I see one that I don’t have…
