I was at an estate sale today in Orland Park, Illinois. To my surprise there is a 1932 Ford Coupe ! I spoke with the elderly wife about the car. She said that she remembered that her husband had bought it from "The King Speed Shop" in Lansing, Illinois. When I got home I did a a little research and found the car. It was called "The Judge". The estate sale is having a silent auction which ends today at 3pm. Here are the some photos. Mike
Where do these estate sales advertise? Last year was the ardun powered roadster from North Judson that ran at Bonneville, now this. I imagine that there was other speed parts available, I mean a guy couldn't own just that and not have other car stuff also. Let us know what it goes for.
I found it on Estate Sales.net. It's 2.5 miles from my house.......how did I not know about it. Any thoughts on a value.......it does not have the engine but everything else seems to be there. I don't think the estate sale company is going to do the family justice by not adverting it on a national level. Mike
It was on Facebook marketplace. The whole silent bid thing is weird and makes it hard to be a buyer. I hope the selling price gets posted here.
Ahhh, I foggily remember that coupe, KING Speed Shop had a store, 96th and Cicero, a block from my house when I lived in Oak Lawn , years ago. It was there atleast a couple times on a trailer. Kinda forgot about it till I saw that Pic. Empty you wallet and make it what it was. Mitch
I just went our to the estate sale and asked if they where going to announce price at 3pm........they said no...it's private. But I spoke with someone else there and they are going to tell me later. We'll see. I also bid on it ???? But I'm sure I am no where close. Mike
Somebody got a good buy. I knew a few people looking and one of them told me minimum bid was 27,500. I guess not.
Based on some earlier threads I think this was yet an earlier version of the same car. The orange & white version in the b&w photo was the version raced at us30 in the 70's when I saw it though.
So, this is the 3W that one post member Nthgth ; asked about 2/12/25 in the What’s it worth section. The pic got deleted… I figured it would show back up , at some point! Looks like a great project for someone. I do remember seeing pictures of it as the King and the Judge, in the past.
I saw it around noon the day of the auction & assumed it would bring mid $20's which requires an additional 15%, body looks decent as if a couple weekends could get it on the road to revival.
I saw this a couple of weeks ago but being so far away and it being a bid thing through an estate site made it pretty tough to get too serious about for me. If it truly sold for mid-20's, that is a really nice deal in my opinion. If someone had sent it to me and said "they want $25k for it but it's in Illionois" I would have bought it. Very neat car, hopefully the person that bought it doesn't turn it into a street rod. ironandsteele.com
Yep, they hurt themselves by doing the silent auction thing. It's just like when I'm at a swap meet and someone asks me what I'll pay for it. I'm not gonna be both the seller and buyer. If it actually sold for $25K, the buyer got a good deal. Hopefully it's a HAMBer and we get to see it revived.
Thanks for posting, never saw a thing about it advertised on F/B marketplace. I hope it stays local, we could use a few more around here.
Joey just posted on FB that it is going to go back to what it was in the racing pictures. How much and which picture, he didn.t say. At least it will be a hot rod again. First time it was out of the garage since 1982.
