I picked up this magneto, was told that it fit a Ford FE motor. After doing some research, I found out there are few different ford distributors that will not interchange. Any help to ID this joe hunt Magneto? Has a vertex cap. The tag has nothing stamped on it for model # or serial # stamped 0675F8E9-A0B3-46CC-AD82-5232090F9482.jpeg .

It doesn’t have the normal type of seal for an FE distributor and they don’t usually have the shoulder above it either but I guess as it’s aftermarket that may not be definitive.

Just FYI, a small block Ford version looks very similar to the FE version. Dimensionally, I don't know the differences, though.

It looks like my small block mag. What size is the oil pump shaft? Small block and FE will be 1/4, if it is 5/16 it is maybe 351W. Also 460 as well as 351C would be 5/16. It is not FE.

Also, there are gear diameter differences between the small blocks. If you can measure the gear od more info can be given.

Looking at it again I am going to say it is 460 Ford, being that tall. It will also fit a 351C if it is 460.

460 and 351C have that size gear, but so does FE. It is not FE, housing is shaped wrong. I am pretty sure it is 460. It should have the 5/16 oil pump shaft size. When I go back down into the shop tomorrow, I will measure up and give dimensions. There is a off chance it could be 351W.
